Tanzania and Korea have signed an agreement to boost internet and data security in the country.

Chief Secretary of the Ministry, Dkt. Maria Sasabo inked a 5 year memorandum of understanding with South Korea’s ICT and Future Planning Minister Choi Yanghee to establish links between government departments, research stations, organisations, businesses and training centres involved in information technology.

The purpose of the MoU is to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of ICT. For the mutual benefit, the two countries have identified areas of cooperation in policy, institutions, technology development and service.

The arrangement means that Tanzania will benefit from South Korea’s advanced internet security.

The new MoU lists big data, cloud computing, training of personnel involved in ICT, cyber security and high speed internet broadband as areas which South Korea could support Tanzania.

Set up in 1971 with the support of the US, the Korean Institute emerged as one of the main pillars behind the country’s rise from poverty. It is currently ranked among the best innovative institutes of higher learning globally.

''Earlier today, the Minister for Science & Technology, Prof Makame Mbarawa attended a prior meeting with KISA about this matter. We will be cooperating closely in learning, exchanging expertise as well as checking our internet security infrastructure''.

As we all know, Korea is a step ahead in Communication arena, take Samsung mobiles for instance as their inspiring product. We are looking forward on the possibilities to extend our cooperation in Industrialization as well'', says Dr. Sasabo.

On his side, The President of KISA, Oh JinYoung thanked the government of Tanzania for the agreement and promised to collaborate greatly in accomplishing the goals.
