Swissport Tanzania Limited is constructing an 8,000 square meter modern cargo facility at Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA).

The construction of the $ 8 million facility started early this year and is set to be completed by October.

According to the Company's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mr. Gaudence Temu, the facility will store vulnerable and radioactive goods. Live animals and out of gauge cargo among other things.

"The logistic concept and design of the facility have taken into consideration various unique environments and operational practices as well as international air cargo handling standards," he said.

Upon the completion the cargo export facility will feature an export center for perishable goods with chillers and freezers for preserving fish, meat, vegetables, flowers and medicines.

The facility will also be used to store bulky and heavy shipments and will house an express handling section with a dedicated release area, truck docks equipped with hydraulic dock levelers from small and medium to large trucks.
