SUA appoints deans for Moshi University

THE governing council of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) has appointed Deans of Faculties at Moshi University College of Cooperative and Business Studies (MUCCOBS), which became its constituent college after the government endorsed its chapter on June 5, last year.

SUA Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerald Monela named the Deans of Faculties as Mr Mbelwa Muhandeni who will be in charge of the Faculty of Cooperative and Community Development and Mr Exaud Mwende, Faculty of Business and Information Technology Science.

Others are Mr Remi Tiruhugwa, Faculty of Research and Consultancy Services, while Ms Magret Msinganzila is the new Director of the Institute of Continuing Cooperative Development and Education.

Under the changes, which were recently made by the SUA Council, under the chairmanship of Ambassador Nicolaus Kuhanga, Prof. Jyro Matovelo was appointed SUA Deputy Vice-Chancellor responsible for Finance and Administration, replacing Prof. Apolinaria Pereka whose tenure expired on November 14, this year.

Prof. Monela also revealed that in a move intended to maintain good governance and leadership capacity building, some leaders at MUCCoBS are currently attending university leadership training courses at SUA sponsored and run by Tanzania Council for Universities.

Earlier, addressing the graduation assembly, MUCCoBS Principal, Prof. Faustine Bee revealed that students enrolment has gradually increased from 540 in 2004/2005 to 2,713 this academic year.

He added that programmes have also increased from 11 to 22, respectively. The Principal mentioned new programmes for 2009 / 2010 as Certificate in Enterprise Development, Certificate in Library and Information Sciences.

He also said there will be Diploma in Enterprise Development, Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources Management, Bachelor of Arts in Marketing and Entrepreneurship and Bachelor of Arts in Business Economics.

Other programmes are Bachelor of Science in Business Information and Communication Technology, Master of Science in Cooperative and Community Development, Master of Arts in Procurement and Supply Management and Doctoral Programme which is jointly conducted by SUA.
