CANNES, France — Spike Lee is slamming Clint Eastwood over his two recent Iwo Jima movies, saying the filmmaker overlooked the role of black soldiers during World War II.

Lee _ whose next film is this fall's "Miracle at St. Anna," the story of an all-black U.S. division fighting in Italy during the war _ said Eastwood's 2006 movies "Flags of Our Fathers" and "Letters From Iwo Jima" were whites-only affairs.

"He did two films about Iwo Jima back to back and there was not one black soldier in both of those films," Lee said Tuesday at the Cannes Film Festival, where he was a judge in an online short-film competition.

"Many veterans, African-Americans, who survived that war are upset at Clint Eastwood. In his vision of Iwo Jima, Negro soldiers did not exist. Simple as that. I have a different version,"
Lee said.

Eastwood was in Cannes for his missing-child drama "Changeling," starring Angelina Jolie. At a news conference for the film, a reporter tried to ask for his reaction to Lee's criticism, but the moderator cut her off and told journalists to limit questions to Eastwood's own movie.

Due in U.S. theaters in October, "Miracle at St. Anna" centers on four Americans _ played by Derek Luke, Michael Ealy, Laz Alonso and Omar Benson Miller _ in the Buffalo Soldiers division in Tuscany.http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/21/spike-lee-slams-clint-eas_n_102867.html

Those (blacks) who get over racism are tagged "elitist". Its some vicious circle here going on. Most educated and successful blacks do not view racism as an issue.......... a catch 22 in some areas..........

See, that's the problem. Some black people are very judgemental. If you're not down with the cause then you're labeled something...

There's nothing like a petty squabble between celebrities to send folks searching. Ideally, the tiff involves vapid starlets arguing over who started the purse-dog trend, but Clint Eastwood telling Spike Lee to "shut his face" makes for a perfectly acceptable substitute.

The spat began when Lee questioned Eastwood for not casting African-American actors in his two World War II films, "Letters from Iwo Jima" and "Flags of Our Fathers." Mr. Lee noted that there were black soldiers present at Iwo Jima but not in Eastwood's movies. Mr. Eastwood fired back, saying in an interview that black troops were not involved in the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima and also suggested that Mr. Lee should "shut his face." Yow, Dirty Harry's in the house!

In the dustup's aftermath, lookups on Clint jumped 89%, while Spike surged 178%. A slew of articles including one from the Huffington Post drew clicks, and the story's not over yet. The New York Daily News noted that Mr. Lee recently responded to Eastwood's face-shutting suggestion. Quoteth Mr. Lee: Eastwood "sounds like an angry old man." We're not taking sides, but you gotta admit—truer words were never spoken.

its ironic.. he looks so calm and quite but from inside i feel he is full of anger... why so..?
