The EFF calls for the immediate release of Sibongile Ndashe and 12 others who were arrested by the Tanzanian police for holding a meeting. Sibongile Ndashe who is a human rights lawyer and activist held a meeting with other activists and defenders to discuss ways of challenging Tanzanian authorities to allow the importation of health services to HIV patients. The Tanzanian authorities however, raided their meeting arresting them under the pretext that they were promoting homosexuality.
Tanzania cannot call itself a democracy if they arrest people for holding a meeting. Freedom of assembly is essential to any conception of a democratic society. It is therefore groundless for them to hold these human rights activists in prison, deny them a bail, and pretend to be a democracy. In essence they are violating what is a human right.
The EFF will write to the Tanzanian authorities to demand the end of this injustice.
