  • Mr Mbuvi said he was shocked to find a politician well known to him with some 30 people who shouted at him and threatened him.

Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko claims that his life is in danger following an alleged confrontation between him and Nairobi Woman Representative Rachael Shebesh in a bar on Saturday night.

The senator made the allegation in a Facebook post hours after the brawl in which gunshots were fired.

The same night, he recorded a statement at the Kilimani police station over the alleged death threat.

Directed to report

However, the two city politicians were directed to report to the Divisional Criminal Investigations Officer in Kilimani on Monday.

Photographs said to be of the senator and the women’s representative in compromising situations were recently circulated in social media.

The two leaders rubbished them as photoshop work or digitally manipulated, even as they alleged foul play.

In the Facebook post, Mr Mbuvi says he had requested his friends and family to join him for a thanksgiving dinner after the burial of his family’s driver.

“I told people who had escorted me to the funeral to meet me at my usual joint on Azalea Wood Avenue for a thanksgiving dinner.”

Caribea Bar near Yaya Centre, Nairobi, was the place where the two leaders clashed.

Mr Mbuvi said he was shocked to find a politician well known to him with some 30 people who shouted at him and threatened him.

Their bodyguards engaged in a scuffle and it was alleged that several gunshots were fired.

Revellers who had been peacefully enjoying their drinks were taken aback when the senator arrived with a group of women in eight buses who were chanting slogans against Ms Shebesh, according to a security guard at the premises.

Efforts to reach the two politicians yesterday were unsuccessful.

Monday, May 26, 2014 - 00:00 -- BY STAR REPORTER

NAIROBI women's representative Rachael Shebesh was forced to flee when a large group of rowdy youths stormed a restaurant as she hosted friends to drinks on Saturday evening.

Several bullets were fired in the air and into a banda structure to deter the group of 500 people.

Before the incident, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko was allegedly confronted by two men who questioned ing him over a car he allegedly bought Shebesh. He said they asked why the car was repossessed by an auctioneer.

Sonko and Shebesh separately reported the matter at the Kilimani police station. The incident took place at Caribea Restaurant on Ring Road Kilimani, near Yaya Centre. Employees of the restaurant told the Star Shebesh arrived at about 7pm. She sat in a banda with a group of people as they took drinks while chatting. Sonko arrived later and sat in a different banda. He said he was there to meet one of his lawyers.

The senator said he visited the toilets and was confronted by two men, "probably accompanying Shebesh", who questioned him over the car. He said it was confiscated by an auctioneer for failure to clear a Sh4 million balance.

Sonko then reported to the management that his life was in danger. But one of the managers, Gerrard Malombe, thought the senator was joking. "Yes, my life was in danger and I brought it to the attention of the hotel management,"

Sonko told the Star yesterday. A group of youths, who attended the funeral of one of Sonko's drivers, later stormed the hotel shouting. Sonko said he had offered to buy them dinner. Malombe and another manager, Raheem Pirbhai, said the noisy youths then stormed the bandas and looted food, beer and other drinks. Some of them stormed the banda where Shebesh was hosting her group, forcing her to flee. Malombe said the drinks were on her.

Shots were fired in the air to scare them away. "There were more than 500 rowdy people," Malombe said.

Sonko said he bought Shebesh a Toyota and a Ranger Rover Sports. He said he paid for the Toyota and deposited Sh4.5 million for the Ranger Rover.

Sonko said the Sh4 million balance was to be cleared in installments.

"I did not clear the balance after we parted ways. I do not want anything to do with the amount deposited and the vehicle. It was a gift to her," he said.

Several calls and a text message to Shebesh by the Star to get her side of the story went unanswered. Kilimani Deputy OCPD Julius Lemako said Shebesh reported the matter at the station.
