Sir Alex Ferguson hopeful over Van Persie signing: We've made a bid & we have to perservere

[h=2]The Manchester United manager confirms that the Red Devils have made a solid offer for the Arsenal striker and admits he is unsure as to how the north London side will respond.[/h]

Van Persie has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks, with United, Manchester City and Italian giants Juventus all linked with the Dutchman after he announced that he would not be signing a new contract with the Gunners in early July.

However, no club has been able to agree a fee with the north London club, and the prospect of the 29-year-old remaining at the Emirates Stadium for another year has begun to look an increasingly likely one after the Gunners' signing of Santi Cazorla.
Speaking after United's pre-season penalty shoot-out defeat to Barcelona, he said: "We have made a bid and they've been trying to negotiate with other clubs. We just have to persevere.

"Hopefully it will come our way. We're trying our best but there's no progress at this moment in time."

Sir Alex also claimed that the Gunners' unwillingness to sell their captain was proving a stumbling block.

He added: "I don't have a gut feeling on it at the moment, I must admit. We're not getting any breakthrough with Arsenal.

"It's difficult to say why they're operating this way. I don't know what their thoughts are because they're not giving anything away."

[h=3]FURIOUS Roberto Mancini last night re-ignited his bitter transfer feud with Manchester City football administrator Brian Marwood.[/h]City boss Mancini also revealed he has turned down FIVE bids for controversial striker Mario Balotelli.
But, just 24 hours before the season-opening Community Shield against Chelsea, Mancini blasted the club's failure to land new summer signings.
He stormed: "I'm not happy. After four months, I don't know what to say. You need to ask Brian Marwood.
"You shouldn't be buying new players 10 days from the end of the pre-season, it should be two months from the end.
"I don't know what I can say because after three or four months... nothing."
Mancini has expressed his frustrations more than once this summer at the lack of new recruits.
The anticipated arrival of striker Robin van Persie now seems certain not to happen, with rivals Manchester United favourites to land the Arsenal star.
Other targets, including Daniel Agger and Daniele De Rossi, have also failed to materialise.
Paris Saint Germain were leading the chase for Balotelli, Italy's Euro 2012 hero.
But it is believed Inter, AC Milan and Juventus were also keen on the 21-year-old.
However Mancini never had any plans to offload Super Mario - despite hinting back in April he could be sold.
The City boss said: "There were four or five teams. Not just from Italy also from France.
"Many important teams wanted him but he's a top player and I never thought about saying yes to any of them."
Most observers were impressed with how Balotelli handled himself during Euro 2012, in which he scored three goals.
But Mancini is not too sure we will see a better-behaved striker this year, even though he hopes he will.
He added: "I hope he develops and he had a fantastic Euros but I don't think he can change his behaviour because he played very well.
"It can help him because he may understand that he has all this quality, it's important for him to improve his behaviour around football.
"I hope the Euros can help him with that."

Manchester United were locked in talks with Arsenal on Tuesday night over what they hope will be a deal-clinching improved offer for Robin van Persie.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed how the Gunners were expecting a new bid, with sources claiming the move could be sealed by Saturday's big-kick off.

And United took a significant step towards securing the deal by re-opening discussions with the North London club. Their improved offer, likely to be close to Arsenal's minimum £20m asking price, is expected to be submitted in the next 48 hours.

United front: Sir Alex is closing on the deal of the summer for Van Persie - who is with the Holland squad




United players themselves are becoming increasingly confident that Van Persie will be joining them in the near future.
Van Persie is currently away on international duty with Holland and their new boss Louis van Gaal has told the striker that he would be happy to advise him on his future.

'I think the player always has to decide for himself. When he wants he can ask me for advice but then I'll speak to him, not to you,' he said.

Asked if it was important that Van Persie's future be resolved in time for next month's World Cup qualifiers against Turkey and Hugary, Van Gaal added: 'Yes, of course. But it's for the English clubs, and Arsenal of course, to decide.'

Final hurdle: The protracted deal could soon be concluded if the Gunners accept the offer for their captain

Meanwhile, Chilean striker Angelo Henriquez will complete a £4million move to United after undergoing a medical.

Sportsmail revealed in June that United had secured first option on signing Henriquez, 18, until 2014 but Sir Alex Ferguson decided to fast-track the deal with his club Universidad de Chile when several rivals began showing an interest.
The teenager, who has been on United's radar for three years and had previously had two trials spells at Carrington, was seen leaving the Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester following a three-hour medical.
Darren Fletcher made his first United appearance in nine months on Tuesday night after taking a break from football to battle a career-threatening stomach condition.

The Scotland midfielder, 28, received a huge ovation when he came on after 59 minutes in a friendly at Aberdeen.
