Artiste Joseph Mayanja aka Chameleone has been hospitalised at Kololo Hospital with severe injures on the face after an alleged fight near a city night club.

Chameleone was involved in a brawl with a city businessman, Mr Meddie Ssentongo in Club Silk discotheque in Kampala in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Chameleone and Mr Ssentongo shifted the brawl outside the nightclub.
According to Mr Sam Mukasa, who was travelling in the same car with Chameleone, Mr Ssentongo tossed a bottle at Chameleone's car and sped off towards the city centre.

"Chameleone ordered the driver only identified as David to pursue Mr Ssentongo and we caught up with them near the Jinja Road round- about," Mr Mukasa said.

He said Chameleone got out of the car and asked Mr Ssentongo why he had hit his car. "But Meddie just drove towards Chameleone with intent to knock him, but one of his (Chameleone's) friends pulled him out of the way and the car only hit him around the waist," he added.

However, the Police has a different story altogether. The Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba said yesterday that they recorded a statement from Mr Sentongo who reported a case against Chameleone at Jinja Road Police Station.

Police said the incident happened at 2am near Club Silk as Chameleone was on his way back home.
"We have opened a case of malicious damage of property against Mr Mayanja but he hasn't given us his statement. Our officers went to Kololo Hospital where he is hospitalised but couldn't record a statement because his health wasn't good," Ms Nabakooba said.

Police said after the incident, Mr Sentongo reported to Jinja Road Police Station that Mr Mayanja had damaged his car.

According to Mr Mukasa, the incident happened at around 4am and they rushed Chameleone to Case Clinic because he was in a critical condition. "Chameleone was in a comma, he was bleeding profusely so we rushed him to hospital," he said.
