Good people,
I am humbled and cannot even attempt to comment on the many messages of
support and condolences that I have seen. Allow me at this stage to simply
state that I acknowledge receipt and will ensure that Simbo's close family
receives them.
The burial arrangements are still being refined, but we know at this stage
that it will be in the afternoon of Friday 18th July in Kilimanjaro. So we
will have Last Respects in Dar es Salaam on Thursday (presumably in the
morning), and we will then start the approximately 600km journey in a convoy
immediately thereafter.
If you are able to join us, the village is called Nkuu-Nderen, located in
Machame on the slopes of Kilimanjaro - and be warned that the weather is
rather cold up there at the moment. From Kilimanjaro International Airport,
you should expect a drive of 45mins to reach there. I am not sure about the
taxi cost at the moment (given oil prices) but I would budget for US$150
with some contingency on the side.
The best hotel in the area is the Protea Aishi Hotel, whose details you can
easily find by using Google. Alternatively there are many hotels in either
Moshi (30mins away) or Arusha (1.5hrs away).
Meanwhile Simbo's wake (kilio) is at his residence -- NSSF Flats along
Garden Road (between the TPDC Compound and the Rose Garden). You are welcome
to join us there too.
We have encountered some technical hitches in setting up the intended online
condolence book, but I have been assured that it will be operational as of
06:00hrs GMT (09:00hrs in Tz) tomorrow morning at www.eThinkTankTz.org/simbo
Given these tragic circumstances, I am unable to track emails consistently.
And although I have two ears and two phones, I am only able to deal with one
caller at a time, so SMS (to either +255 78 478 2175 or +255 78 478 2175)
remains the most reliable means of reaching me for now. If you do call,
please be patient if you don't reach me on the first attempt, but just try
again after a moment as I may also be momentarily unable to return your
call.
I can only pray for you all to have patience and be strong in coping with
this difficult reality.
