Imepitishwa kwamba shule zote zinazofundisha mitaala ya kigeni au 'international schools' lazima watafunza Kiswahili na historia na tamaduni za Kenya pia.

It will now be mandatory for all international schools that do not follow the Kenyan curriculum to teach Kenyan history and Kiswahili. But it was not clear whether the two subjects will be examinable.
This emerged during a meeting between Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i and representatives of international schools and Kenyan private schools. There are 19 schools that offer International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), a British curriculum that is different from the Kenyan 8-4-4 system of education. An official who attended the meeting told The Standard that international schools did not oppose the proposal.

"The meeting agreed in principal that they teach Kiswahili and Kenyan history," said the official. The schools also discussed the ongoing curriculum reforms timelines and implementation.
