Rwanda imeliandikia barua Shirika la Kimataifa la Usafiri wa Anga (ICAO) ikiomba kuchua sehemu ya anga la Tanzania- HT @ THE CITIZEN
Dar es salaam. Rwanda has written a letter to the International Civil Aviation Organisation to take control of the Central Western part of Tanzania's airspace.
That has come at a time when the Tanzania civil aviation Authority(TCAA) is striving to regain its Eastern triangle airspace. The portion which covers Madagascar, Mouritus, Moroni and Mayote Islands was over the past 39 years delegated to Kenya by ICAO due to security reasons.
That was done because Tanzania did not have enough survaillance radars. Its only radar is old.
ICAO is yet to respond to Rwanda which has two modern radars, according to TCAA director general Hamza Johari.
According to him, Tanzania can now control its airspace as its airspace as it is in processes of purchasing four modern radars worth Tsh 61.3 bilion.
The radars will be installed at five major airports; Julius Nyerere, Abeid Aman Karume, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and Songwe.
The regulator has also installed the $177,206(sh 389.9 milion) very high frequency Radios(VHF radios) at Mnyusi in Tanga.
