Nishauri tu kwamba tupokee ripoti hizi critically rather than passively. Ni dhahiri kwamba hapa tunaandaliwa kuuziwa mkopo. The World Bank core business is to sell loans.

Walipotoa ripoti kuhusu tourism (The Elephant in the Room: Unlocking the Potential of the Tourism Industry for Tanzanians), kilichofuata tulichukua mkopo. Walipotoa ripoti kuhusu bandari (Opening the Gates: How the port of Dar es Salaam Can Transform Tanzania ), kilichofuata tulichukua mkopo kuboresha bandari ya Dar es Salaam. Sasa wamekuja na ripoti hii (The Road Less Travelled - Unleashing Public Private Partnerships in Tanzania). Kitakachofuata tutachukua mkopo.

Uandishi wa hizi ripoti unafanana: Unlocking the potential of tourism industry, Opening the gates, The Road Less Travelled. Ripoti hizi huandikwa kimkakati ili kutega wakopaji wachukue mkopo. Ukiwa mfanyakazi wa the Bank, hiyo ndiyo kazi yako ya kila siku - produce 'knowledge' that will enable selling of loans.

Kama unataka kujifunza zaidi jinsi the Bank inavyozalisha "knowledge", look for this book. Imperial Nature: The World Bank and Struggles for Social Justice in the Age of Globalization by Michael Goldman. See particularly Chapter III: Producing Green Science inside Headquarters.

I think we need to reform our minds, especially in the world of Globalization. We shouldn't wait until be judged by others. Since we aren't proactive enough to assess and research for our own benefits, we will always chase the unknown shadow.

economic growth without social transformation is nothing but a political dogma for manipulation of the poor, the growth of the economy must reflect in the daily life of the people not on papers in the world bank corridors.

Tanzania's economic growth for the past 10 years has been reported colourfully in various reports and papers, however the reality in the street is quite different, it adds nothing to a gentleman of my class in the street to tell him the economy is mushrooming figuratively while he is EMPTY POCKET with empty-bellied children at home. what is economic growth to us is different from the world bank point of view.
to me there is economic growth if am able to feed my children and kinsmen, school my kids, ensure my wife is well dressed and satisfied, good health services , good and happier friends and well protected with a good social security package. and not what the world banks believes.

Zungu Pule has a point, but I do have the following reservations,

Have we at hand, evaluation reports on loans performance taken as a result of influence of "The Elephant in the Room" and "Opening the Gates"? Short of that, we can't reach an informative conclusion as to whether the reports are just dragging us.
Can we do it without loans? Absolutely NO! considering leverage effect, but the quality of loan is what matters.
We do not take these loans at gun point, there is a free consent.

Why skeptical about the reports? They are just free consultancy!

Well, try and see where the problem is with these reports. They look like science but no science. They are not even consultancies for consultancies are commissioned and involves at least two parties (Are you really convinced that the World Bank are in the business of providing free consultancies? Do you really think the World Bank is a charity?). The issue is with the whole process of legitimation, using knowledge that is inherently political to justify practices (They produce knowledge and privilege their own knowledge at the same time through financing). That is how do you justify lending to Tanzania? How do you get Tanzania to borrow from the Bank? If you produce a report that will convince a potential borrower to borrow, then that is purely politics as opposed to science (This is not to say science is not political).

Yes, sometimes these things proceed at a subconscious level. So, it is not really a question of consent. It is a question of how internalized dispositions can make one unable to see what is happening/unfolding before him (e.g. Like when people think that it is cool to interact and negotiate with the World Bank. I have colleagues who feel so powerful when they tell you they are going for a meeting at the World Bank office. Or like when one thinks World Bank reports are objective and reflect reality because the World Bank staff are top researchers.) The need to borrow shall be conceived solely by the borrower. It should not be created/manufactured by a lender and then imposed on a borrower through some forms of symbolic violence.

We have been hearing this for the past 10 yrs, however the economy growing fast and leave behind 12 millions Tanzanians living in total shameful poverty that the report of the same people who made us believe all that time that our economy is growing, growing very very fast.On my view using common sense,I think the parameters we should be looking for to gauge economic growth in the society is to look into people lives,Tanzania bado tuna middle class ndogo sana, middle class na hiki ndicho kipimo cha kawaida sana, unasemaje uchumi unakuwa wakati middleclass haikuhi, watu waliojaribu kuleta high end products wengi wamefunga, ukienda masaki/oysterbay wakazi wengi ni wanasiasa/watoto wa wanasiasa, foreigners na wafanyabiashara
