Police in Naivasha have arrested thirty two suspects linked to the dreaded Mungiki sect and recovered tens of crude weapons.

Also recovered were paraphernalia associated with the banned sect in the two roomed house where the suspects were.

The suspects were arrested in the sprawling Kabati estate on Tuesday night as they held a strategic meeting.

It was not clear what the weapons that included swords, whips, machetes and clubs were meant for with fears that they were meant to be used for political violence.

Also recovered were the sect register and minutes together with the monthly contributions accounts of each member.

Sniffing tobacco, soda ash and unknown substances were netted during the raid that saw some of the suspects escape.

Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Willy Lugusa said that they were investigating the motive of the meeting adding that the suspects
would be arraigned in court soon.

"These weapons could be used for criminal activities and at the present moment we are not ruling out anything," he said.

He said that those arrested were all men aged between 18 and 35 years and could not explain what they were doing in the room.
