GENERAL MANAGER – JOB DESCRIPTION AND SALARY/TERMS AND CONDITIONS PACKAGE
Narrative Description

Fresh Handling wishes to recruit a General Manager with a variety of skills and experience. The position involves the daily management of over 50 Personnel and the Operations of the Company, primarily reception, handling and dispatch of fresh produce into and out of our cold stores and delivery to the apron for loading onto aircraft.

The position also, with equal importance, involves negotiation of airfreight contracts with airlines, advice to the Board of Directors on those contracts, daily contact with the growers/shippers and with the airlines aiming for the development of good relationships so that growers get the best possible service and no dead-freight bills.

Developing the procurement business of the Company with the aim of producing an income to finance the Company's operations

Supervision of the Financial Management of the Company, in conjunction with the Finance Manager, to meet Board objectives and to ensure sound financial management. To this end, the GM will prepare and deliver to the Board a monthly Operational, Management and Financial Report by the 10th of each month for the previous month and will be prepared to expand on parts of these reports as required at Board Meetings.
To exercise Cost Control in the running of FHL. The Board believes that the cost of Administration and of Operations is too high. The GM will also be expected to negotiate reductions in tariffs for airfreight and external handling wherever possible.

FHL requires re-organization. Several internal activities must be reformed with a view to reducing administrative costs, providing effective leadership and team spirit among staff.

Networking and establishing linkages with relevant government institutions and others. The Company is negotiating with the Airport Authority (CAA) for the handover of ownership of the cold stores and permission to re-develop and extend the current facility. The GM will be expected to take a lead role.

Coordinating the preparation and presentation of annual and quarterly FHL budgets and activity/work plans for approval by the Directors. Organize Annual shareholders General meeting

Liaise with Sector Associations that are directly related to the activities of FHL. Promote the image of the company and acts as it spokesperson.
The Company is prepared to offer a competitive NET package as follows:
· Salary: US$6,000 per month
· Medical Cover to a value of $8,000 annually (premium will be paid up to that level)
· Vehicle, fully serviced with 200 litres per month fuel allowance
· Other benefits are negotiable

Contract Term: 2 years, renewable for further periods of 2 years by agreement

Station of Work: Kampala, Uganda
