The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mussa Azzan Zungu, has called on the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community to continue collaborating with society to maintain peace in the country and to avoid individuals with personal grudges who aim to disrupt peace.
Zungu who is also the Member of Parliament for Ilala, made this statement while attending the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Tanzania at the Ahmadiyya Centre located in Kitonga, Msongola Ward, Ilala Municipality in Dar es Salaam on September 28, 2024.
Zungu emphasized the importance of the community focusing on Human Rights as a tool to foster peace in the country and acknowledged the contributions of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, including building schools, drilling water wells, and providing hospital services.
He stated that he was present to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa who have were in other duties.
He said “The government recognizes this activity (the 53rd Annual General Meeting of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Tanzania). The instructions and greetings from the President are that they should unite with other Tanzanians to ensure peace is maintained.”
He added that he hopes they will fulfill their responsibilities by joining him in bringing development as they approach the upcoming elections in 2025.
Zungu stated, “When religion gets involved in politics, it can confuse believers. Sometimes they may have incorrect information that can mislead the public, and believers may enter into a state of hatred toward the government without having accurate information.”
“Meetings like this remind us to follow our faith, build unity, peace, fear God, and refrain from sin.” This 2024's theme is ‘Islam and Peace.’
On the side of the Amir and Chief Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Khawaja Muzaffar Ahmak, he said, “We are pleased to have a Deputy Speaker who has given advice. We are happy to hear that our government is with us, and we emphasize peace for all people so that we can achieve development.”
