Lake Victoria's deaths has been recorded since time immemorial , of most of it were caused by millitary wars , the military of Buganda kingdom of Uganda wanted to rule over the lake , which they later did after thousands of people had died .
Lake Victoria's rising water levels has been mentioned as another reason for accidents in the lake . It's depth has been ascertained to be 82 metres deep , with 69,484 square Km . It has only one outlet and that is to River Nile . Researchers confirmed that Lake Victoria is the source of River Nile .

1. Rocks above and beneath the water surface.
It has huge rocks , some protruding out of the water surface others are slightly hidden . Fishermen knows this spots . The waves however is said to push the boats towards the rocks damaging the boats and the occupants left to the mercy of the raging waters .
2. Sudden Change of climate
Fishermen practicing in the lake confirmed that rains can shower suddenly affecting the fishermen in the middle of the Lake . The waves is also said to be unpredictable and anytime you're in the lake anything can happen . Even so advice from them is that in case unfortunate happens , one should avoid the shores because the waves there are stronger .
3. Poor communication.
According to report by NTV Uganda , the lake has poor signals and in case of an impending emergency little help can be obtained . Rescue boats , life jackets are barely found . The East African community which shares the lake however had agreed to have several rescue centres around the lake but has not been achieved years later .
Fatalities .
Lake Victoria claims 5000 people yearly most of whom are fishermen and some tourists who visit the lake . MV Nyerere sunk at Mwanza claiming 500 people most of whom were school going children who were on holiday traveling . The incident happened in 1996 and is believed to have been caused by overloading .
On September 20th another ferry sunk claiming 224 lives.
9 members of Boyieta Wuod Awasi- an Ohangla band died enroute Siaya county across the lake .many deaths are not recorded.
