US President Joe Biden called President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday morning, February 26 to reiterate the importance of a strong relationship between Kenya and the US.

In a statement released by the White House, Biden highlighted that the United States was committed to working closely with Kenya to support regional peace and security, which also included corporations at the United Nations Security Council.

The two presidents also discussed the deteriorating humanitarian and human rights crises in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, emphasizing that there was a need to stave off further loss of life and ensure humanitarian access.

Biden's communication team added that the leaders further discussed the need for cooperation on other matters of regional stability.

The US President commended Kenya's economic growth, its intentionality in addressing climate change, and working towards sustainable development.

During a call in December last year, President Kenyatta stated that while Biden was serving as vice-president under former US President Barack Obama, he had helped renew Kenya-USA ties and therefore considered him a friend to Kenya.

Uhuru further stated that Biden's presidency presented a greater platform for closer collaborations for the benefit of their citizens.
The two presidents also share a commitment to the implementation of green energy which aims at mitigating climate change by reducing the carbon footprint.

Kenya's energy policy seeks to ensure an affordable, competitive, sustainable, and reliable supply of energy to meet national and county development needs at the least cost while upholding environmental conservation.

President Uhuru's Big Four Agenda focuses on the development of Kenya's economy and providing solutions to various socio-economic problems facing Kenyans.

Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th president of the United States on January 20, 2021, taking over from former president Donald Trump.
