Prof. Shukrani Elisha Manya is the Executive Secretary of the Mining Commission, the post he has held since June, 01, 2018. He oversees the day to day activities of the Mining Comission and regulating the Mining Sector in Tanzania. Before this appointment he served as the Commissioner for Minerals in the Ministry of Minerals, the post he held for six months.

Prof. Shukrani E. Manya is a Professor of Geology from the University of Dar es Salaam where he served for 17 years consecutively as an academician and researcher. Before his appointment as Commissioner for Minerals, Prof. Manya was serving as the Director for Research and Publication of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). During his time at UDSM, he also served as the Head of Department for three years between 2012 and 2015.

Prof. Manya has published widely in the areas of geochemistry of gold-bearing terranes of Tanzania, an author and co-author of the several books including Explanatory Notes for the Minerogenic Map of Tanzania and is an Editor (and sits on editorial boards) of leaned Journals in the world.

He has served on various boards of many institutions including Chairman of the Geological Survey of Tanzania Board, member of the Ministerial Advisory Board of the then Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Tanzania, member of the Board Committee of the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation, and Council Member of the Mbeya University of Science and Technology, to name but a few.
