SOME OF RAILA'S COMMON NICKNAMES AND THEIR MEANINGS

1. Tinga Tinga - The Symbol of his first political party in the late 1990s
2. Agwambo - A word from his Luo language that means "The Invincible"
3. Hammer/Nyundo - A recent nickname after he imported a state-of-the-art rough terrain landcruiser called a Hummer. It was donated to him as a gift by Kenyans living in the US who support his presidential bid. Hummers are mostly used as military vehicles. It is said that between Nairobi and Mombasa the Hummer consumes petrol worth 16, 000Kshs which is roughly 360,000Tshs and 500, 000UGshs. It was reported that a chief campaigner of Raila's opponent who is campaigning for Kibaki's re-election imported a Hummer too and drove to Kisumu (Kenya's 3rd largest town which is on the shores of Lake Victoria). Wananchi, most of whom are Luos (Raila's tribe) swarmed the white Hummer thinking that it is Raila's only for them to find the opponent inside. They called the TV station to complain that Raila should drive his Hummer (red in color) to Kisumu at least for them to see it live!
