The Swiss Centre for International Health (SCIH) of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute
(Swiss TPH) conducts consultancy, project management, training and applied research work in
international health.

For participation in the tender for a project on health promotion and health system strengthening in
Dodoma Region, Tanzania we are looking for a Project Co-ordinator

The position is based in Dodoma, Tanzania.

The project includes the following working areas:
• health promotion within community groups (advocacy, communication and social mobilization for improving the level of knowledge and information to reduce the burden of ill-health in
communities),
• health systems strengthening (strengthening of health care financing mechanisms and organisational support of the district health system), and
• operational research and documentation (as a cross-cutting activity for the two components).

Your main responsibilities, under the Switzerland-based Project Leader will be to:
• Coordinate the project with all its activities in country
• Liaise with the regional and district authorities and relevant stakeholders of the project
• Provide technical support for concept development in the different working areas of the project
• Development of project plans
• Facilitate and guide consultancy missions, trainings, etc.
• Monitoring the implementation of project plans
• Reporting duties to the project leader and within the stakeholder context (government, steering committee, etc.)
• Accountability for the in-country project finances to the project leader

Professional profile and requirements:
• Training in health care financing or public health, and a background in family medicine, planning of health services at decentralised level, continuous medical education and/or community development. A postgraduate training in public health (ideally at Master degree level) and/or a PhD in a relevant topic would be an asset
• At least 5 years of professional experience in development projects related to health
• Substantial working experience in the field of public health and health reform in developing countries in at least one of the following fields: health care financing, health system monitoring and evaluation, health planning and management, community health, primary care
• You have an excellent command of English; language knowledge of Kiswahili and German are an additional asset
• Experience in project management and leadership

Duration of contract in case of award of tender: 4.5 years, with possible extension
Starting date: June 1st, 2010
