The East Africa Tea Trade Association (EATTA) is a voluntary membership organization that tarings together tea producers, buyers (exporters), brokers, packers and warehouses from 240 member companies, representing 11 countries in Africa.

It provides its members with an environment in which to interact commercially, and to promote the best interests of tea trade in Africa. EATTA is in the process of being incorporated as a Company limited by guarantee.

The Business, whose offices are based in Mombasa, is seeking a dynamic and innovative individual with exceptional leadership qualities to fill the position of Managing Director. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious executive with a track record in effective organizational leadership and management.

Reporting directly to the Board, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing overall leadership in the management and operations of the Business.

Specific areas of responsibility will include:

• Advising the Board on professional and technical matters relating to the industry;
• Driving the growth of the Business and identification of markets and opportunities for business expansion;
• Providing leadership in the development and implementation of innovative strategies to enhance the effectiveness and profitability of the Business;
• Addressing the concerns of the diverse membership, and responding with appropriate initiatives;
• Building strong relationships with government leaders, regulatory bodies and business partners in the market;
• Ensuring effective communication amongst the members and between the trade and concerned stakeholders;
• Creating and maintaining the right public image of the Business;
• Preparing and coordinating business plans, proposals, reports, annual operating budgets and other performance related submissions for consideration by the board;
• Ensuring sound internal monitoring systems and management practices, in line with international standards; and
• Ensuring that human resource capacity and appropriate management structures and policies are developed within the organization for sustainable growth.

Applicants must have a bachelors degree in a business related field and an MBA. In addition, they must have a minimum of 10 years working experience with at least five years in senior management positions in dynamic medium and large sized organisations. Experience in tea trade will be an added advantage. Excellent communication, interpersonal and networking skills as well as proven capability to formulate business development strategies are essential.

An attractive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the job will be offered to the right candidate.
