SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – Intel on Thursday showed off a wireless electric power system that analysts say could revolutionize modern life by freeing devices from transformers and wall outlets.

Intel chief technology officer Justin Rattner demonstrated a Wireless Energy Resonant Link as he spoke at the California firm's annual developers forum in San Francisco.

Electricity was sent wirelessly to a lamp on stage, lighting a 60 watt bulb that uses more power than a typical laptop computer.

Most importantly, the electricity was transmitted without zapping anything or anyone that got between the sending and receiving units.

"The trick with wireless power is not can you do it; it's can you do it safely and efficiently," Intel researcher Josh Smith said in an online video explaining the breakthrough.

While some places in the World can't even afford to eat regular food, others are having wireless electricity.

It is amazing

Two coils with a matched resonance at the exact matching frequency on both ends = wireless power.

Wireless Electricity is something pioneered by Nikola Tesla, who discovered alternating current (AC) electricity. AS most geniuses experience, he had great difficulty convincing men of his time to believe in Wireless Electricity. Thomas Edison was in favor of direct current (DC) electricity and opposed AC electricity strenuously. Tesla eventually sold his rights to his alternating current patents to George Westinghouse for $1,000,000.

After paying off his investors, Tesla spent his remaining funds on his other inventions and culminated his efforts in a major breakthrough in 1899 at Colorado Springs by transmitting 100 million volts of high-frequency Wireless Electricity over a distance of 26 miles at which he lit up a bank of 200 light bulbs and ran one electric motor! With this souped up version of his Tesla coil, Tesla claimed that only 5% of the transmitted energy was lost in the process. But broke of funds again, he looked for investors to back his project of broadcasting electric power in almost unlimited amounts to any point on the globe.

I,ve been thinking 'bout this achievement since nikiwa darasa la nne....
I'll love to know unavyoweza kuwa transmitted withous fracture dhidi ya watu au kupungua nguvu.
Hii teknology itawasaidia sana tanesco kudhibiti mawizara yanayogoma kulipa

Nafikiri wireless electricty ni tech nzuri na inafaa kufanyiwa kazi ili itumike manyumbani.

SAN FRANCISCO - When Tesla Motors Inc. began taking orders last year for its all-electric sports car, celebrities lined up to purchase the sleek zero-emission vehicle with the six-digit sticker price.

But with plans in the works for a new headquarters and factory, the Silicon Valley startup hopes it's taking the first step toward making electric cars a presence in the driveways of average Americans.

Tesla got final approval Tuesday of a deal with the city of San Jose to lease nearly 90 acres of city-owned land for a plant to build the Model S, an all-electric sedan.

Hizi teknologia tunazihitaji sana hapa Tanzania.
Na zikija hapa ujue kuwa tutakuiwa na maendeleo ya mara moja.
Maana maji ya chumvi yamejaa baharini hivyo vituo vyote vya mafuta vitabadilishwa na kuwa vituo vya maji ya chumvi;
Haya manguzo yote ya Umeme (ya TANESCO) yaliyo huko barabarani yataondolewa kama yale ya Simu (TTCL).

Ninaamini sasa kuwa: "Hakuna kisichowezekana chini ya Jua".

Recharging your laptop, cell phone and a variety of other electronic gadgets may soon be as convenient as surfing the web has become, wirelessly. Many of us often forget to recharge cell phones, and when it is about to die it creates an unpleasant noise along with a real inconvenience. With that in mind it would be a lot more efficient if it would just charge itself.

There have been principles for this type of technology around for nearly two centuries, without anyone actually digging into the study. Electric motors and power transformers contain coils that transmit energy to each other by the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction. A current running in an emitting coil induces another current in a receiving coil. The two coils mentioned above are close to making contact with each other but do not. Further on scientists discovered electromagnetic radiation in the form of radio waves. Although transferring energy from one point to another through ordinary electromagnetic radiation is typically very inefficient. The waves tend to spread in all directions, so most of the energy is lost to the environment. Marin Soljacic realized that the close range induction taking place inside a transformer could potentially transfer energy over longer distances, perhaps across a room. Instead of irradiating the environment with electromagnetic waves, a power transmitter can fill the space around it with a non-radiative electromagnetic field. Therefore, energy would only be picked up by electronics specially designed to resonate with the field. Most of the energy not picked up by a receiver would be reabsorbed by the emitter.

Wireless energy transfer also known as wireless energy transmission is the process that takes place in any system where electromagnetic energy is transmitted from a power source (such as a Tesla coil) to an electrical load, without interconnecting wires. Wireless transmission is employed in cases where interconnecting wires are inconvenient, hazardous, or impossible. Though the physics can be similar (pending on the type of wave used), there is a distinction from electromagnetic transmission for the purpose of transferring information (radio), where the amount of power transmitted is only important when it affects the integrity of the signal.

The tangle of cables and plugs needed to charge today's electronic gadgets could soon be a thing of the past.US researchers have outlined a relatively simple system that could deliver power to devices such as laptops or MP3 players without wires. The concept exploits century old physics and could work over distances of many meters, the researchers said.Although the team has not built or tested a system, computer models and mathematics suggest it will work.
