Pendekezo: Jumuiya ya Afrika Mashariki (EAC) ianzishe mfumo mmoja wa kusajili magari (number plates)

Nothing shouts EAC than having the common currency (East African Shilling), lakini that's something too radical that might not even ever happen.
However, we have simple things that we could implement which are not as radical, the aim being to give the EAC more visibility. I fail to see ugumu wa kuanzisha mfumo mmoja wa kusajili magari. If possible all countries should switch to this new digital car number plates.
The new number plate should have the EAC flag as well as the letter of the state of registration (TZ for Tanzania, KE for Kenya, UG for Uganda, RW for Rwanda, BR for Burundi and SS for South Sudan). Kwa mfano huu ni mfumo wa namba za magari huko EU:

As you can see kuna bendera ya EU followed by a letter showing the country of origin (In this case GB means Great Britain)

As good as it sound, EAC has a long way to go before introducing single number plates for EAC. Wenzetu was EU wana high number of border crossing per day (physical and virtual) than us. EU estimated at least 50% of its citizen cross border to another EU at least once a year (this is more than 200m ppl). Huku kwetu bado tunatoza magari ya nchi moja kwenda nchi nyingine ($60). Jobs ni shida kupatika kila nchi inalinda zake, taxation bado kuwa harmonised.people to people business bado iko chini sana maybe kwenye level ya karibu na zero. Mpaka level border crossing iongezeke, ndio unaweza kujenga hoja ya license plate.

Chicken and egg scenario. Perhaps the common plates will increase cross border trade? Hahhaaa ok that sounded more sensible in my head.
But seriously, my point was have common plates for the sake of more visibility for regional integration and the EAC. It had nothing to do with trade and all that.

This cooperation should strictly be about trade, all these ideas, ati sijui currency, number plates what have u......are we not overreaching ourselves here? The countries need not lose their identities ati in the name of the EAC!

They are just number plates for crying out loud......umeshaleta mambo ya nchi kumezwa. Kwani nchi ni number plates?
Kwa taarifa yako the EAC is about more than just trade....at least the way it was envisaged

I know exactly what you mean, but do you believe that a common number plate will make someone from Singida chooses to visit Nakuru just because they have same number plate with his/her counterpart? I think its all comes down to money, are the people feeling wealthy enough to jump on their vehicle and cross the border. I'm not sure in past five years how many friend's have you made in Burundi Rwanda Uganda or Kenya, If you have, than you'll be one of the few in a hundred fifty million people. Integration need money circulation, it needs trade volume, common knowledge, and common values.
 
kenyan plates are the ugliest in the region pants down, they look as if they are made for the blind. ugandas nd rwandese are better looking, tanzanias front yellow plate are also aestheticaly terrible..
 
Personally I'd welcome the idea kwa wale tunafanya shughuli cross-border kwa sababu najua mziki wa kuendesha gari lenye usajili wa nambari za Kenya kwenye barabara za Tanzania. Hela za maji utatozwa hadi utamani kulitupa tu, aidha ukomae nyuma ya bus kama Dar Express na upambane kusafiri kwa kasi.

Halafu nyie Watanzania kabla hamjawaza hili la EAC hebu mrekebishe muungano wenu kwanza, nimelazimika kumtolea jamaa yangu Mtanzania dhamana baada ya yeye kukakamatwa Zanzibar eti lazima awe na kibali cha huko kabla aruhusiwe kuendesha gari. Jamaa alijaribu kujitetea, kawaonyesha leseni ya Tanzania bara na kitambulisho lakini wakachachamaa na kukatalia kwamba ni sheria lazima yaishie mbele mahakamani.

That person from Singida might not necessarily move to Nakuru, but he/she could be among the 40% of Tanzanians who don't even know what the EAC is. Having the EAC flag on our car plates will make him/her question more and in the process learn more about the EAC.
You know, I don't think that people don't have money to cross borders. For instance, create a harmonized unified hugher education system in the EAC utaona watu wakivuka mipaka. Sisi ndo tumeifunga mipaka yetu wenyewe na kumfanya mtu wa Singida atake kwenda kusoma UDSM na sio Makerere au UoN!
So, once again we have a chicken and egg scenario. What should come first? Should we wait for huyu mtu wa Singida atake kuvuka mpaka au we should create push factors for him/her to want to cross?

Muungano wa Tanganyika na Zanzibar usiwe kisingizio cha kucheleweshwa kwa Shirikisho la Afrika Mashariki.
Nyerere mwenyewe alisema the only way to break the Tanzaian union ni kama nchi zote mbili (Tanganyika na Zanzibar) zitakuwa ndani ya Shirikisho la Afrika Mashariki.
Hivyo basi EAC ni suluhu la kudumu kwa kero za muungano wa Tanzania

Tanzania tulishasema na nchi zingine za EAC zikakubali kuwa suala la ardhi halina mjadala kila nchi mwanachama itabaki na mamlaka kamili juu ya matumizi ya ardhi yake
