Palestine has expressed its gratitude to Tanzania for its principled stand in voting in its favour to achieve non-member observer status in the United Nations.

Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Tanzania, Dr Nasri Abu Jaish

Palestinian Ambassador to Tanzania, Dr Nasri Abujaish told reporters in Dar es Salaam yesterday that it was a remarkable achievement to all peace and freedom loving people all over the world.

"Yesterday (Thursday) November 29, 2012, 138 states voted in favour of Palestine. The vote is a long sought victory for Palestine which has at last been granted its ‘birth certificate' after 65 years of resistance against Israeli occupation, confiscation, expulsion and genocide," he said.

According to news agencies, the resolution upgrading the Palestinian status to a non-member observer state at the United Nations was approved by more than two-thirds of the 193-member world body – a vote of 138 for, nine against and 41 abstentions.

Dr Abujaish said that Tanzania's voting had once again demonstrated the historic solidarity between the people of Tanzania and Palestine. He said it was a global victory for human rights, freedom, national self determination, peace and justice.

He said that with the vote, Israeli occupation was effectively defeated and the State of Palestine and the Palestinians had won and that it showed the world had sided with justice and peace and was against occupation.

"We now hope that with the enhancement of the State of Palestine, the UN Security Council will respond to the resolution submitted in 2011 to grant Palestine full membership in the UN and reaffirm its intention to achieve a two-state solution based on the pre-1967 borders," he said.

The Ambassador explained that with the new status, Palestine State was now ready to resume negotiation with Israel on issues of illegal settlements, Jerusalem, borders, refugees, water and other resources.

He stressed that Palestinians could now gain access to UN agencies and international bodies, particularly the International Criminal Court, which could become a facilitator to task Israel for alleged war crimes or its on-going settlement building on the war-won land.

Thursday's vote came on the same day, (November 29) in 1947 when the UN General Assembly voted to recognize a state in Palestine, though the jubilant revelers then were the Jews. The Palestinians rejected that partition plan and decades of tension and violence have followed.

Dr Abujaish said he was optimistic that in three months time, Israel would suffer its first case at the International Criminal Court after forensic tests on the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat pointed an accusing finger at them.

He said that Palestinians were convinced that Israel poisoned Mr Arafat and that they were certain Russia and Switzerland would unearth the truth. Joining the United States and Israel in the ‘no' vote were Canada, the Czech Republic, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Panama.

Real independence, however, remains an elusive dream until the Palestinians negotiate a peace deal with the Israelis, who warned that the General Assembly action will only delay a lasting solution. Israel still controls the West Bank, East Jerusalem and access to Gaza. It has accused the Palestinians of by-passing negotiations in the campaign to upgrade their UN status.

Not only Tanzania, even USA supports Palestine! Havent you heard that USA has blamed Israel for starting building 3000 setlements in Gaza recently!. Dont play with international politics!. Sometimes what you see is not what you get!

History shows that they existed no state refered as Palestina.

What history you talking about? Did you meant to say palestine not stated in holy books? Did you know that the land of Israel was turned upside down because of their homosexual activities? Btw i see no Tanzania in history!

Once Gaddafi told the truth to all of UN members! I support him, and he was killed because he was Anti-Western. He said the charter if UN states that all members are equal, how come others have permanent sear and others not? There is no equality! The whole world knows tha israel is OCCUPYING Palestinians' land! Now i want you to tell me is it legal for Kenyans to occupy our land in tanzania and claim their state? Why the Fword are we blind to see? its illegal for Israel to build the 3000 settlements, yet they still continue with the construction, why the Fword no sanctions imposed against israel? Its the UN who stated that its illegal settlements, now where is the UN? Hypocrates, UN members are not the same!

The oldest history of homosexual activities is associated with the cities of sodom and gomorrah which can be traced in present day JORDAN and not in ISRAEL, if there is any land that was turned upside down because of homosexuality then surely that land should be Jordan.

You should be aware that the first leader of Palestine was Yasser Arafat, a citizen of Egypt by birth and before him going back as far as to the time of creation, there had never been a King, ruler, queen or a leader of any sort of Palestine, but the history is rich of roots of the children of Israel in that land, history acknowledges their kings and prophets, their cities and what happened to them. Those who seek to uproot the children of Israel from their ancestry land are making serious mistake and are offending the one who swore to their forefathers that he will give the land to their descendants

USA is against the building of settlements because it may affect the peace negotiation efforts between the two states.
But USA has never supported the the so called Palestinian struggles for sovereignty. Remember last year USA veto
against recognition of the state of Palestine by the UN?...USA knows what Israel means when it comes to blessings and
human prosperity. N the US prosperity is centered in the support for Israel physically and spiritually.

Personally I will never support the Palestinians in expense of Israel. My body and spirit is with Israel because Testaments and
promises of God to me as a christian are tied with Israel. As THE GREAT CAMP said and so do I, "let the history record my stand".

Nadhani unaizungumzia hii speech, ilikuwa ya nguvu kusema ukweli...

One of the greatest UN speeches of all time by the one and only Muammar al Gaddafi in 2009

As is known, the United Nations was founded by three or four countries against Germany at the time. The United Nations was formed by the nations that joined together against Germany in the Second World War. Those countries formed a body called the Security Council, made its own countries permanent members and granted them the power of veto. We were not present at that time. The United Nations was shaped in line with those three countries and wanted us to step into shoes originally designed against Germany. That is the real substance of the United Nations when it was founded over 60 years ago.

That happened in the absence of some 165 countries, at a ratio of one to eight; that is, one was present and eight were absent. They created the Charter, of which I have a copy. If one reads the Charter of the United Nations, one finds that the Preamble of the Charter differs from its Articles. How did it come into existence? All those who attended the San Francisco Conference in 1945 participated in creating the Preamble, but they left the Articles and internal rules of procedures of the so-called Security Council to experts, specialists and interested countries, which were those countries that had established the Security Council and had united against Germany.

The Preamble is very appealing, and no one objects to it, but all the provisions that follow it completely contradict the Preamble. We reject such provisions, and we will never uphold them; they ended with the Second World War. The Preamble says that all nations, small or large, are equal. Are we equal when it comes to the permanent seats? No, we are not equal. The Preamble states in writing that all nations are equal whether they are small or large. Do we have the right of veto? Are we
equal? The Preamble says that we have equal rights, whether we are large or small. That is what is stated and what we agreed in the Preamble. So the veto contradicts the Charter. The permanent seats contradict the Charter. We neither accept nor recognize the veto.

The Preamble of the Charter states that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest. That is the Preamble that we agreed to and signed, and we joined the United Nations because we wanted the Charter to reflect that. It says that armed force shall only be used in the common interest of all nations, but what has happened since then? Sixty-five wars have broken out since the establishment of the United Nations and the Security Council - 65 since their creation, with millions
more victims than in the Second World War. Are those wars, and the aggression and force that were used in those 65 wars, in the common interest of us all? No, they were in the interest of one or three or four countries, but not of all nations.

The whole Palaestine is anciently known as the Land of Israeli which once was under King David and later King Solomon who created the temple at Jerusalem.
The name Palestine was introduce by Romans during the Roman Invasion which expelled most Jews.
The remains of the temple exists even today !
I support Israeli !

I am not among them who support Palestines. Please take note on that. My stand till death is support towards holy land Israel, and Jerusalem holy city. Let the history record my stand.

Did you also support the Boers during apartheid? This kind of positon is why I tell people "mungu ni kikwazo".

I must assume that you are young in your 30s, having born after most liberation struggles were won.
Your love for god, and Christianity in particular, has blinded you from seeing the Zionist oppression of the Palestinians.
For you, putting a wall around a group of people and make them living in prison is OK as long as your god said Jerusalem is for one group of people only.

In fact, you also demonstrate a lack of understanding in the relation between Jews and Christians. You are caught up in the romantic story of the bible that god favours a group of people and place them in Israel. What is it for you in Africa then??

Occupation is wrong. Whether it is done by man or in the name of a "god". It is just wrong!

which land are you talking about???? bring the detail according to the morden borders please... afterall,, according to the BELFOUR declaration that stands till today, and according to the words of BEN GURION( the firs prime minister of israel nation)..''' the BELFOUR DCLARATION gave us(israel) much than we fought for''''' tatizo mmeshaingiza udini katika mabo yasiyohitaji imani.. upuuzi mtupu
