Kumbukumbu zangu zinanituma kuamini hivyo.

"De Klerk of South Africa 1993 for the Nobel Peace Prize. What a shame. Are you not able to see this. If not, what a disgrace. For what did De Klerk get a Nobel Peace Prize? Alas! For detaining Mandela and the praise for apartheid. Correct me if I am wrong here. Do we need these prizes as Africans? The answer is no. Forget the these stupid prizes and let us make Africa a surprise. When I hear Tsvangirai's name for the Nobel Peace Prize I feel like vomiting. He cannot get the prize until he delivers our land Zimbabwe and all our germs back to the whites. So such a candidate is in the eyes of Africans not worthy. Do you get my point?" Kachuso

ALL the evidence regarding the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize suggests that Africans are not hot favourites to receive the coveted prize. Whether this is deliberate or coincidental nobody knows.

For many years, African luminaries have performed reasonable efforts in bringing or contributing to peace in Africa since the nationalist struggles which brought Independence, starting in the late 1950s.

Ellen Johnson-Sir leaf of Liberia, Ken Saro Wiwa of Nigeria, Joachim Chissano of Mozambique, John Garang of Sudan, the late Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo and Morgan Tsvangirai of Zimbabwe, the late Julius Nyerere of Tanzania, the African Union and Ecowas have all made worthy efforts which deserved recognition.

A few of the above African grandees should all have been awarded this coveted peace prize at some point in time, if at all peacemaking was the only factor determining who should receive it.

Morgan Tsvangirai, it is believed, since nominees are never revealed, has been in the running for the top Prize for two years and has clearly been snubbed on both occasions. The writing is already on the wall.

Further, it is interesting to see that Africa is the continent most bruised and affected by conflicts which justifiably should make it an unparalleled front runner for the prestigious peace prize but nobody recognises this stratum of fact.

Africa had its first recipient of the peace prize, Albert Luthuli of South Africa's ANC in 1960, President Sadat of Egypt received the prize in 1978, followed by South Africa's Desmond Tutu in 1984, Nelson Mandela and De Klerk of South Africa 1993, Kofi Annan UN 2001, Wangari Maathai of Kenya in 1984 and the last African winner was Egyptian Mohammed Elbaradei of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2005.

The first Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in 1901, was accordingly shared between the Swiss founder of the Cross, Henry, and the French peace activist Frédéric Passy, one of the founders of the Inter-parliamentary Union.

Ever since the granting of the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901, the Norwegian Nobel Committee selection process has been a farce, carefully orchestrated to benefit white middleclass Europeans and North Americans to a lesser extent, most of whom are superficially involved in peace processes in wars that are mostly funded by the West, which is paradoxical by an measure of logic.

It was only later in the 20thcentury when the nominations and eventual granting of winners from outside Europe and America became common place.

Every year when announcements of Nobel Peace Prize winners are made, there is a high level of anticipation that some of the most deserving peace makers may be recognized. However, that anticipation and anxiety is normally dampened by surprises and disappointments.

The argument regarding who should or should not get the Nobel peace Prize is not only controversial but very politically charged too. The surprise awarding of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to US President Obama, not only riled peace activists and analysts, but vindicated the argument that the Peace Prize is occasionally awarded to personalities rather than worthy peace activists, who possess the virtue and art of peace at heart.

This year's Nobel Peace Prize winner is jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, who is yet to achieve his freedom and let alone that of oppressed Chinese and Tibetan people. Some analysts see the choice of this year's selection committee (with respect to Xiaobo, a gallant fighter for human rights) as a sign of western belligerence towards China. China is gradually replacing US as the world's dominant economic superpower, which may also affect the balance of power politically and militarily to its favour in a few years to come.

Some concerned commentators have suggested that the decision to award a prestigious international peace prize such as the Nobel Prize on the basis of unquantifiable contemporary opinion is fundamentally flawed and unjust, especially as many of the judges cannot themselves be said to be impartial observers in a polarised world. The Nobel Peace Prize has rewarded more people from the peaceful North at the expense of the largely unpeaceful and hostile South.

Perhaps time has now come for the UN in conjunction with the Bill Gates, Richard Bransons, Warren Buffetts of this world to establish a credible and fair Peace Prize not to replace the generous Alfred Nobel Peace Prize but to complement it in a way that will see the most deserving people receive the prestigious prize.

Morgan Tsvangirai and many other unsuccessful hopefuls will always feel unfairly treated not because the current and previous Nobel Peace Prize winners were undeserving, but because they were not properly appreciated for the sterling work they did in bringing peace and salvation to a country almost condemned to the wilderness by the international community only a couple of years back.

Some will disagree and argue that Tsvangirai's efforts fall short of peace making as the country is still far from being peaceful and stable. There are of course those who see Tsvangirai's successive snubbing for the coveted Prize as nothing but a pattern that only rewards personalities in Africa with connections to the West not peace activists.

It is not coincidental that half of Nobel Prize Winners in Africa are all South African of very high international standing yet both have all contributed to a single peace episode in South Africa. It is also true that Africans only have a realistic chance of winning the Nobel Peace Prize as opposed to the other categories of prizes in Science, Economics and Humanitarianism where the issue of resources, exposure and other factors play a big part.

greed Cris, Morgan T deserves it - even though some people dont think that he does. You are right. Also, I think people like Professor James Chetsanga who discovered two enzymes involved in the repair of damaged DNA:

Formamidopyrimidine DNA Glycosylase, which removes damaged 7-methylguanine from DNA (1979).

DNA cyclase, which recloses imidazole rings of guanine and adenine damaged by x-irradiation (1985)

Chematama akudya mari, which is why he left the trade unions and got into full time pollitics. He was only ever beaten up once, now tell me how that compares to someone whos serving a jail term for fighting for his peoples rights. You claim that Lui Xiaobo has not managed to secure his own freedom yet, but is that not what makes him great..How can u compare him with Tsvangirai who spent the night at Borrowdale police station.

Shane, Tsangirai has suffered great personal loss in his fight to bring true democracy to Zim. Yeah, he may not be that good looking but the man has not wavered in his quest to liberate all Zimbabweans from the oppressive regime. If you are in the diaspora - ask yourself why you left. He staid - and is fighting the good fight, even though his wife and friends have been killed.

This is fairly researched article with a brilliant analysis of the general mood that people now show towards the so-called "Noble-Peace" Price. How is noble is that prize?Who sits in that panel? Are Africans icons involved in determining who deserve to be iconolized with that prize? If yes, what percentage of Africans is involved?Who gives the final determination? For your own information, South Africa is not yet free and that is the reason why they showered them with the prize so as to soften them.Mugabe who forgave Ian Smith who butchered more than 30000 Zimbabweans deserved the prize in the early years of independence..

I guess had a few Africans won it in the past your views would be different. Africans feel short changed when things dont go their way, and pick on the race card, that shit is so played out now and has come down to noise to be honest. If you dont find it to serve your purpose then dont pay attention to it and focus on how you can play your part in this world.

Well written vakuru. The Nobel Peace prize is very prestigious but one does not need intrinsic recognition by man to feel satisfaction about one's good works. In any case it is emancipating to stop competing for the proverbial "pat on the back" from western nations. Let's have our own prize to be awarded by us to us. Let's look for inspiration and encouragement from within our own ranks. The Nobel peace prize has a leadership that has stirred up controversy in the last couple of years when they awarded Obama last year, and this year when they awarded this prize to the incarcerated Chinese gentleman. One would think that they are trying their hand in nation building when one thinks about it for but a second. Let them award their awards to the birds.

true true, the peace prize is no longer a reward for excellence in science and the arts, it is now a tool which some privileged few are tryign to use in nation building and future shaping politics. With all due respect to President Obama, I love and respect him but I think they gave him the prize a little too early, before he could truly show what he can do and what he truly made of.

mkuu, huyu de klerk alimpokea Pieter Botha mwaka 1989 Sept.

Kumbukumbu zangu zinanituma kuamini hivyo.

Hapa Tunazungumzia Tuzo Ya Aman Ya Nobel. Hii Tuzo Watu Wengi Wanao Amini Amani Katika Mapigo Akiwemo George Bush Na Pinda Miaka 1000, Hawawezi Kuipokea! Kwa Case Ya Mwalimu Ni Kwamba Alikuwa Nauwezo Mkubwa Wa Kusorve Matatizo Kwa Mdomo, Lakini Aliamini Katika Mapigo! Wakati Furani Nilisikia Watanzania 3000, Waliuawa Na Mreno Mozambique, Kuficha Aibu Kombe Likafunikwa Hadi Miili Ilivyo Rudishwa Hv Karibuni! Watanzania Waliuawa Angola Na Zimbabwe, Uganda - Kiko Akatangaza WATANZANIA WANA KUFA KAMA KUKU, / KAMA MITI IMELAZWA! Ikabidi Arudishwe Aje Anae Tangaza Bara~bara!

Halafu apewe Noble prize. Is that "scenario" noble to you? If not, huyo ndio nyerere na hayo yametokea na si ya kuhadithiwa. Nilikuwepo.
Umenifanya nicheke sana FF!! lol
