NSSF set to generate 300MW from sisal

The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) has said it will install a power plant which would generate 300 Megawatt to the national grid beginning December this year.

Speaking to a meeting organised by the Tanzania Editors Forum here, the NSSF Director General, Dr Ramadhan Dau, said the fund intends to invest in power sector in order to arrest the on power shortage facing the country.

He said at the moment the Fund officials are in France to negotiate on the purchase of the plant, adding that the machine is expected to arrive in Dar es Salaam next month or early November.

According to him it will be installed by experts from the country of origin in collaboration with their local counterparts.

Dr Dau revealed that plans to purchase the plant started back in 2010 after officials of the Fund visited Malaysia to study various issues on power sector generation.

He said no nation can make progress without reliable power supply to run development operations.

For his part, the Managing Director of Katani Industries, Salum Shamte, urged farmers to increase cultivation of sisal which is used as an alternative source of power generation.

He said the plant can be grown with other crops such as maize, cashew nuts without any problem. He further noted that apart from power generation, sisal can be used in making many things such as baskets and fertilisers.

Shamte explained that on hectare of sisal can generate up to 1m/- depending on the activities one is engaging on, adding that farms for cultivation are available in various sizes in many parts of the country.

Hii ni sawa ila ni kweli hawa NSSF wanapesa zetu nyingi sana halafu kinachonishangaza wao wanafanya biashara kubwa kubwa tu kila siku wanapata faida lakini sisi wanachama hatuna faida hata hiyo riba wanayodai wanaweka haionekani kama vile haitoshi ikifika wakati wa kutaka zichukua pesa zetu wanamizengwe mingi na process kibao...kwanini lakini hawa jamaa.

NSSF mnapata faida kubwa sana kupitia jasho langu lkn hamnijali, wala kuthamini jasho langu, nasikitika kwamba sifahamu hata kwa nini pesa yangu hamnipi atleast hata robo yake!
