Mandela media overhyped ultra-superstardom could be a game/stratergy to help white minority live in peace after so many atrocities they commited against black brothers. The stratergy is, find someone who you will grant the high moral authority, a person who you will want future leaders to emulate, let this person be mandela, help him succeed in his reconciliation efforts, then in the future when the white minority will be threaten in the country of maojority who are black, they'll be able to shout " why are you not like mandela?".

By the way, what did mandela do for the rest of africa(apart from his own land), and the rest of the world in general?, why is he a superstar than the people who remained in the trenches fighting for africa?, people like nyerere and nkrumah?. The answer is, the media has stratergically chosen him, he is not that superstar for nothing, they know what they are doing to overhype him, help the white minority stay in peace with the black majority.
