Wakuu kuna taarifa za kupotea kwa ndege moja leo asubuhi ambayo imetokea kwenye uwanja wa ndege wa Mwanza kwenda jijini Nairobi.

Bado haijajulikana ilikuwa na abiria wangapi na ni aina gani kwa sababu viongozi wa uwanja wa Mwanza wako kwenye kikao wakimaliza pengine tutapata taarifa kamili kwa sababu kuna mtu wangu ambaye yuko hapo anasubiri kikao kimalizike.

Kama kuna mtu ambaye anaweza kuwa na taarifa juu ya tukio hilo basi atujuze wakati tunasubiri taarifa kamili kutoka kwa uongozi wa uwanja wa ndege wa Mwanza.

An aircraft with three passengers that had left Mwanza, Tanzania, for Magadi in Kenya has gone missing.

The aircraft, registration 5YSXP and operated by Safari Express Limited, had left Mwanza Airport on Sunday at around 4.26pm.

Upon reaching an altitude of 14,000 feet, it lost communication with the the radar at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The area control manager at JKIA's control tower, Mr Peter Clever Davor, said that the aircraft had not been traced.

Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU) commandant Joseph ole Tito on Monday morning confirmed that the aircraft was missing.

"The aircraft has not been located and the details we have are very scanty," he said.

The Kenya Police Airwing dispatched an aircraft as the search-and-rescue mission began.

The missing plane, a Fokker F-27-500, manufactured by Fokker, is a cargo aircraft.

FLY THROUGH JKIA

Police, however, did not say why the aircraft was flying from Tanzania to Kenya directly.

Flights from neighbouring countries are supposed to fly through JKIA, Wilson or Wajir airports for reverse screening.

Plans are also under way to include the Kisumu airport as another entry point.

The safari express plane that had gone missing has been found at Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, with its three occupants burnt beyond recognition.

The plane crashed at the national park.

Transport cabinet secretary Eng Michael Kamau confirmed the tragic news just a few hours after Tanzania and Kenya launched a joint rescue and search operation for the plane.

Earlier on, the safari express plane with three passengers on board headed for Magadi from Mwanza, Tanzania had been reported missing.

According to Kenya Airports Police, the air control officials in Dar-es-salaam said they lost touch of it soon after it took off on Sunday night from Mwanza airport at 7:26 PM.

The Fokker 27 plane was to stop at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi at 8:30 PM on Sunday night.
