Dear All;

The Research Into Use Programme (RIU) was commissioned in 2006 by the Department for International Development (DFID) of the Government of the United Kingdom . It is a follow-on programme to the ten programmes that were funded under DFID's Renewable Natural Resources Research Strategy (RNRRS) that ran between 1995 and 2006. These programmes addressed the needs of people dependent on agriculture, forestry, livestock and fisheries for their livelihood. Whilst they generated some high profile success stories, the full impact potential of many of their outputs has yet to be realised. Hence, the two-fold purpose of the RIU is "to maximise the poverty-reducing impact of the RNRRS and other research, and by so doing, to increase understanding of how the promotion and widespread use of research can contribute to poverty reduction and economic growth".

In Tanzania the RIU will be mainly implemented through a competitive Challenge Fund mechanism that will support activities that bring about the generation of innovations through approaches that recognise that the use of new and old knowledge for the benefit of the poor involves many actors working in a system, and that the blockages that may hinder innovation have to be tackled where they exist in the system.

To manage the RIU activities in Tanzania the RIU wishes to procure the services of a reputable Tanzanian organisation. The services shall be required for a period of three years, subject to successful review of services within the first six months of the contract and thereafter annually.

As for the key responsibility of the National Monitoring and Learning Coordinator (NMLC) is to guide and co-ordinate within programme activities the monitoring and learning actions of the RIU programme in country as well as articulating the work with national processes and strengthening data collection and analysis in Tanzania. The post is seen as technical support being part of a wider international and national team. The NMLC can also expect to be involved in Impact Assessment activities. This is for a full-time position over a three-year period. Applications are invited from individuals capable and interested in performing these functions.
Please find the attached, share with potential organizations and individuals and submit your application to addresses indicated in the attachment.
