Job Purpose:

The Nutrition Programme Coordinator oversees the day to day implementation and management of the nutrition programme, ensures the provision of quality CMAM in the target area whilst supporting community-based initiatives to promote the prevention of malnutrition and ill-health among children under-five.

Main duties &
Responsibilities:

· Ensure the nutrition programme is implemented effectively according to international/national protocols and best practice for Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) and other health and nutrition interventions.
· Ensure the monitoring and evaluation system is reliable, robust, accurate, up-to-date and effectively triggers a response for quality assurance as needed
· Lead and support the effective integration of CMAM services into the existing health system and Concern programming
· Lead and support the team in developing and implementing community-based behavioural change communication (BCC) strategies
· Develop sustainable, well-defined partnerships with the ministry of health at health zone level and other local actors. This will include reviewing, clearly defining and reviewing the objectives and terms of Concern's Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the local health office.
· Ensure complementarity between Concern's programme approach and those undertaken by the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other actors with a view to contributing towards strengthening the community health system in the target area.
· Support nutrition (and/or livelihoods) programme staff to ensure community participation and collaboration in programme development and management.
· Train and mentor Concern and MoH staff and other local actors in nutrition, CMAM, behaviour change strategies community mobilisation, nutrition surveys and other technical subjects, as required
· Regularly supervise and provide on-the-job training for Concern and MoH staff and local actors at facility and community level.
· Oversee the planning and implementation of nutrition, KAP and other surveys, including data input, analysis and report writing
· Regularly prepare internal and external programme reports (monthly, quarterly, annual and as needed)
· Prepare programme proposals as required
· Prepare programme budgets and ensure effective budget management in line with Concern policies and procedures.
· Monitor programme expenditure and ensure that this is in line with Concern policies and procedures
· In conjunction with the livelihoods programme team, advise on how best to align the two programmes' objectives, activities and indicators to achieve the common goal of improved nutritional status of children. This will include developing an integrated monitoring and evaluation framework for the nutrition and livelihoods programmes in coordination with the Livelhoods Programme Manager.
· In conjunction with ACD, support and manage key partnerships with MoH, UNICEF, WFP, and other agencies
· Mentor, support and advise programme staff regarding resource planning and management, in line with Concern policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, accountability and transparency
· Ensure that all programme staff have up to date objectives, receive regular feedback and mentoring through such tools as the Performance Development Review
· Ensure that staff training needs are identified and provided (or facilitated)
· Support where necessary, recruitment of Concern staff
· Document programme experience, best practices and lessons learned in collaboration with Dublin-Based Health Support Unit
· Proactively support mainstreaming of equality (especially gender) and HIV&AIDS awareness and prevention

Person specification:

Essential

  • Post graduate qualification (MPH, MSc) in public health, nutrition or related field
