How to become a Vodacom M-PESA Agent?
A Vodacom M-PESA Agent is a retailer who has been appointed by Vodacom as an authorised provider of M-PESA services. As a business opportunity, M-PESA is typically suited to various types of retail business operators with one or more outlets, preferably located across the country. M-PESA agents earn attractive incentives and commissions from Vodacom.
In order to become an M-PESA Agent you would need to meet certain criteria and sign a contract with Vodacom Tanzania. Three options are available to prospective M-agents.
M-PESA Standard Agent
~ A Standard M-PESA Agent must be a registered company or equivalent with a minimum of 5 outlets ready to offer M-PESA under the company name, of which 2 must be in rural areas.
~ Must be willing and able to comply with Vodacom's Anti-Money Laundering Policy which will be made available during the course of the application.
~ Must be willing and able to provide information required that will enable Vodacom to complete a full due diligence on the company.
~ Must indicate ability to service M-PESA customers with specific attention to availability of cash to support cash withdrawals and staff to manage high customer volumes.
~ A minimum deposit of Tsh 2,000,000 per outlet will be required.
M-PESA Independent Agent
~ An Independent agent should have at least 1 established retail outlet. Example: Hotels, Super-markets, etc.
~ A minimum float balance of Tsh 5,000,000 will be required.
M-PESA Special Agent
~ A Special Agent would be a retailer or shop owner with a strong presence in remote or rural areas.
~ Minimum of 1 outlet
~ A minimum float of Tsh 3,500,000 will be required.
Applications to become a Standard, Independent or Special Agent must be accompanied with the following documentation in order to enable Vodacom to properly evaluate the qualifying criteria:
1. Brief profile of the prospective agent (Including shareholders details)
2. List and location of outlets
3. Business Permit (License)
4. Certified Copy of Certificate of incorporation or equivalent (Company or sole proprietorship)
5. Copy of Memorandum and Articles of Association (For private companies)
6. Certified Copy of TIN and VAT certificates (as applicable)
7. Copies of IDs or Passport and passport size photos of Directors or persons playing equivalent role.
