My case against Minister of Internal Affairs Hon. L.Masha (MP)'s Conjoined Twins Saga: National ID and Killings of Albinos – Why should you go? Hon. Masha, Minister of Home Affairs- Tanzania(MP) I am writing this letter with full of sorrowfulness regarding my brethren who happen to be born with some biological deficiencies namely Albinos. It is hard to imagine that with a country not at war or civil distress, has failed to protect its own citizens who are living in terror like the Afghans or Iraqis. I hope you are a regular member of Michuzi Blog and I am sure you saw a picture of a little albino girl who was killed and amputated. That was an immediate factor led me to write this letter to you. We have been portrayed as an oasis of peace yet one of our own people are living under constant fear. They are not enjoying the guaranteed freedom subject to the failure of your leadership to stop these kinds of the killings (refer your statement you made to the BBC –Swahili). Hon. Masha I am sure, if albinos were SAGEM loaded with dollars, we would have seen your intervention because ‘it will be a matter of national security". By the way, I am sure you are wondering who am I to write you this letter requesting you to honorably step down from your' lucrative job' with full of ‘opportunities'. My reasoning is based on several factors which I will analyze them for you and it will be upon yourself to determine which way to go. Hon. Masha, let us look at the functions of your ministry (I am sure you are too busy with majukumu to read those functions). According to government Notice number 20 of 2008, one of the pivotal roles of your ministry is to keep Law and Order, Protect Life and Property. H honorable Masha, your ministry went as far creating its vision, I quote: To become an efficient and effective Ministry that creates a safe and secure country where law and order is respected Futhermore, you participated in creating your ministry mission statement which reads and I quote: To save lives and properties, facilitate and control movement of aliens and non-aliens, assist refugees and rehabilitate convicts through implementation of relevant laws and regulations. Hon. Masha, having said that, I would like you to show me how far have you gone in attempting to prevent and stop albinos' killings. It is my presumption that you are discriminating Tanzanians with alibino genes unless you can show me otherwise. Your mission statement talks about saving lives. How many albinos are dying on daily basis and nothing has been seen to be done to remedy the problem. There is mythical perception that body parts of albinos are used to make someone become rich which is very absurd and inhumane in nature. Honorable Masha, just a piece of advice: Please consult ‘Mzee Ruksa' on how he responded to the failure of his then ministry of home affairs to stop killings of ‘Vikongwe' in Shinyanga. Your credibility and image is under serious doubt when you combined the ID Project and the Albino Incidents. It is sad to find out that you don't live to the expectations of the office you are currently holding. I know your employer will read this too because I am sure he believes in the democratic governance and rule of law and he will do a reasonable thing not to transfer you to another post ( as the practice shows) but take you out of the way subject to the failure to take responsibility. Hon. Masha I know you might feel that I am an adverse politician. I am sorry to disappoint you that I am not a politician as Raymond Morley puts this way: a political war is one in which everyone shoots from the lip" but I am the advocate for those who can not speak for themselves. Honorable Masha, based on the public condemnation, I know deep down your conscious tells you to do the right thing for the public and I know this is the right time do so. Hon. Masha, don't be like "A seeker or holder of public office, who is too often more concerned about winning favor or retaining power than about maintaining principles". As a learned counsel, I am sure you are going to do the right thing. Shadow.
