Fallen popular businessman and city socialite Ivan Semwanga continues to stir controversy even in his death.
The latest evidence shows that before Semwanga’s ‘doubted’ body appeared on social media , International Police (Interpol) in Uganda had on Wednesday held a meeting and agreed to exhume the body and confirm whether the man had actually died amidst speculation that he had faked his death to dupe the public to elude arrest after a multibillion-dollar heist but before Police could carry out the exercise, social media exploded and they halted the exercise.
A Namanve-based investigative journalist Henry Mulindwa revealed that Interpol South Africa have put in their request in writing to their Ugandan counterparts to confirm whether Semwanga was dead since he had fraud questions to answer in South Africa.
However, Police spokesman Asan Kasingye said his office was yet to be informed about the impending investigation into Semwanga’s death. “Iam going to find out from Interpol so as to push the flow in communication.”
TheUgandan broke the story about how mourners had claimed that no one was allowed to view Ivan’s body and that the casket was locked all the time.
It should be recalled at on arrival at Entebbe, bouncers hired by Zari where photographed tearing off a polyethylene sheet with which Semwanga’s coffin had been wrapped.
Different audios made rounds on social media with people claiming that Ivan defrauded a South African national identified as Khalid of $216m in cash, diamonds and gold and his get-away plan was to fake his own death. Conspiracy theorists went on that he has already changed his look thanks to plastic surgery and is somewhere in the world enjoying his money.
