MUGABE CALLS US ENVOY AN "IDIOT"

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has branded a top US envoy "an idiot" with a condescending attitude.
He said that Johnnie Carson, US assistant secretary of state for African affairs, wanted to dictate what Zimbabwe could and could not do. The two spoke on the sidelines of last week's African Union meeting in Libya.

The Obama administration has been sceptical of the power-sharing government formed between Mr Mugabe and his opposition rivals. Mr Mugabe told the state-owned Herald newspaper in Zimbabwe that nothing came out of his talks with Mr Carson - his first meeting with a US government official for many years.

"You would not speak to an idiot of that nature," he said. "I was very angry with him, and he thinks he could dictate to us what to do and what not to do."

Mr Mugabe pointed out that the Southern African Development Community (SADC) supported the unity government.

We have the whole of SADC working with us, and you have the likes of little fellows like Carson, you see, wanting to say: 'You do this, you do that.' "Who is he? "I hope he was not speaking for Obama. I told him he was a shame, a great shame, being an African American."

Mr Mugabe was also not fond of Mr Carson's predecessor, Jendayi Frazer, who is also black.
In May last year he described her as "a little American girl trotting around the globe like a prostitute" after she suggested that the then-opposition Movement for Democratic Change had won the disputed presidential election.

Meanwhile, the Herald also reports that Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has apologised to Mr Mugabe after ministers from his party, the MDC, boycotted a cabinet meeting last Monday. The ministers had decided instead to head to Harare airport to welcome Mr Tsvangirai back from a tour of Europe and the United States, where he had been lobbying for aid for Zimbabwe.

He said he had raised about $500m (£300m), not the $7bn the country's finance minister said the country needed to revive its economy. President Obama committed $73 million, but said: "It will not be going to the government directly because we continue to be concerned about consolidating democracy, human rights, and rule of law."

These statements would prove embarrassing not only to polite societies and the international diplomatic corps, but also to any conscientious self-respecting person.

In the process, Mr. Mugabe betrays his overly negative and narcissistic nature.This megalomaniac despot is way past his prime and needed to have gracefully -if the word can be used so loosely- retired a long time ago.Frankly, I am greatly disapointed by Morgan Tsvangirai's complacency and compromising nature, after all that went down.He basically betrayed a much needed revolution in Africa for fear of his life and personal well being, which even now -Mugabe being the fox he is- is not guaranteed.

What do you really expect from a man who publicly and proudly proclaims that he has "a degree in violence" and "It may be necessary to use methods other than constitutional ones" ?.The Machiavellian tactics of demonizing the west, epitomized by the land issue but also surfacing in other anti western tendencies such as this unfortunate blurb -as merited as can be- are overused, over-spinned, tired cards that careful Africa watchers can easily see through as more of political machinations than the genuine article. Mugabe plays politics like a game to advance his own waning career, and has little to no interest in the true issues of the continent.If he was really interested in sovereignty he would have employed a principled and selfless Kaunda-like appreciation of the rule of law and will of the people, but as we all know, he cannot afford to do that -in fact he attempted but his hangerons, particularly the bloodied security agencies, wouldn't even let him- due to the possible repercussions of the many war crimes he committed , especially pertaining to the Matabeleland massacre.

Mugabe gracelessly and abusively shut down Kikwete at the Lusaka summit -which was supposed to chastise him- as if Kikwete was a schoolchild, telling Kikwete he was not on his -Mugabe's- level, and Kikwete being the meekly timid and humbly lame sheep, sat down with no further protest. Mugabe is a cancer much afflicting to Africa, and sadly Africa - from the policy wonks like Mkapa who bought into his anti-western antics to the point of advocating him at the 2001 Brisbane Australia CHoGM to his SADC enablers including the Africa Renaissance point man Thabo Mbeki- has displayed no capacity to deal with such imbeciles squarely, a much needed part of the whole good governance process which is a crucial part of overall development.

As much as I feel for the people of Zim, and the landless of Zim due to the colonial legacy - a genuine issue deserving a genuine, and even sufficiently militant backlash- I cannot help but feel that Mugabe is using these issues to garner support and cling to power.

I don't even watch CNN and Fox, all I am saying is that, there is no reason why Mugabe, the west and Tsvangirai cannot be principally wrong at this time.

Somehow, it seems Mugabe has succeeded in polarizing people into the classical Bushism ideology of "If you are not with us, you must be with them". The West is truly wrong for colonizing and marginalizing the Zim people, Tsvangirai is clearly wrong for compromising and his complacency, Mugabe is colosaly wrong for his consistently dirty acts

To approach this issue in a one tracked mentality (East vs West) and expect to do justice to the issues is analogous to trying to produce a Dr. Dre production from an a-capella equipped studio, or trying to force Einsteinian relativistic results out of Newtonian terrestrial equations.

Yep..yep i totally agree with you ..and as the matter of fact the problems started when Mugabe said "NO" to their interests!..thats when we started to hear all these!
Sani Abacha was killing and terrorizing Nigerians for many years ..and yet non of the so called democratic western countries opened up their mouth on him..You know why?.because he didnt touch or messed up with their interests!!
