Paul Mukisa was born with two extra arms and two extra legs.

A baby boy born with eight limbs in Uganda is said to be "recovering well" after undergoing major surgery to remove his "parasitic twin." Paul Mukisa had four of his extra limbs- two arms and two legs - surgically detached in the delicate operation last month.

The boy now 4-month-old also had to have his wrongly-positioned heart and liver moved by medics at Mulago Hospital in Kampala.

His parents Margaret Awino and Boniface Okongo, from Nabigingo village, say he is now "recovering well" and breastfeeding from his mother.

Doctors at their district hospital initially told them there was nothing they could do to help their son following his home birth,
according to CNN.

But, after an expert team diagnosed him as having a parasitic twin, they decided to let him grow to be 3-months-old - and then perform the procedure.

"The baby was given general anaesthesia and the torso and trunk of the parasitic twin, which had two arms but no head or heart, was detached from the host baby," Dr. Nasser Kakembo, who operated on the tot,
told CNN.

"Then we also detached the lower limbs of the parasitic twin from the host, which included disarticulating the right and left lower limbs as they were attached by joints," he added.
