No matter what you do in your life, it takes desire, will and love to succeed. Ismail Zulfić, a 5-year-old boy from Zenica, proves that only sky is the limit.
This boy was born without arms. However, that does not prevent him from having a normal childhood, just like anyone else. He was joyfully running with her 4 year-old sister Hana, born without any disabilities, on the terrace of the Olympic Pool Otoka in Sarajevo. There is no difference between them. The smile and energy that Ismail exerts simply do not allow you to notice his deficiency.
As Ismail’s parents Elmina and Ismir said, Ismail has been doing everything on his own since he was a little child. He never asked for help. He learned to crawl, walk, eat – all by himself.
“Ismail was born without arms, his one leg as deformed and fingers on the other one were not separated. The leg deformity has been treated in the early stage and now everything is fine. We accidentally came up with the idea to bring him to this club. We intended to take him swimming, but when he was smaller he fell into the pool at home, swallowed a lot of water and developed a phobia. Dr. Santia informed us about the first swimming club for people with disabilities, and we came,” Elmina and Ismir said.
Ismail goes swimming three times per week and his parents gladly take him to Sarajevo from Zenica every time, precisely because of the smile on his face every time he is in the pool. The progress is already evident and parents are very satisfied. His sister Hana is now also a club member and now the two of them are learning to swim together.
“Our aim is to enable him to develop properly. Swimming will help him in developing motor skills. Ismail feeds himself, uses the computer also on his own. The only thing he cannot do by himself is go to the toilet. He does not let you see his handicap, he is a fighter. We love Hana just as much as we love him, but Ismail is 10 times more capable than she is. While eating with his leg, he does not spill anything,” the parent said cheerfully.
Family Zulfić has a very special energy and they are very positive. They love their children, and they love people and this country. They hope that one day their children will be good people and patriots just like their parents.
Ismail cannot wait to go to the pool, and it means a lot to his parents that one such club has been opened. The Swimming Club Spid is the first and the only club for people with disabilities.
