Tanzania attained 15 spot in 2001 before it slip well down to 21 in 2005. From 2006, the country experienced ups and down before attains its 15th spot in 2009.
However, the general observation from the index shows that while most of the countries have made progress in economic and health gain but the reverse trend is widely seen on the rule of laws and corruptions. For the countries which have recorded peace stability such as Tanzania, the performance of human development has been noted relatively poor in its region.
For Africa countries the top 5 are Mauritius, Seychelles, Botswana, Cape Verde and South Africa and the bottom ones are Somalia, Chad, DR Congo, Zimbabwe and Eritrea.
The modality of the index works on the scale of 0 to 100 with the higher performing countries rated closely to 100.
For the East Africa, Tanzania is leading followed with Uganda (24), Kenya (27), Rwanda (31) and Burundi (32).
