Briefing reporters here yesterday, Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) managing director Devota Mdachi said the minister will use the platform to shed some light on the new marketing strategy that will sell the country’s attractions.
“Our aim is to familiarize the players with the brand and eventually make them have its full ownership of the brand and use it in wooing more visitors to the country,” explained the TTB boss.
She described the ‘Tanzania Unforgettable’ slogan as a strategy to attract more tourists and open up new markets in various countries.
In December last year, the tourism minister appointed a 21-member team to promote the country’s destinations.
Sixteen members from the team came from Tanzania mainland, while the remaining five hailed from Zanzibar.
Among other things, the team was tasked to write a technical proposal on how to promote the tourism sector.
During today’s meeting, the team is expected to give an update of their work and also collect views from the tourism stakeholders in the region.
The 21-member team was currently working on logo, symbols, themes and songs to be used in the ‘Tanzania Unforgettable’ strategy, according to Mdachi.
On his part, TTB’s marketing officer Ernest Mwamaja said the minister will use the platform to discuss with the tourism stakeholders on the launch of Tanzania Heritage month.
“The tourism players will also be introduced to nitty-gritties of the month after it was successfully launched in Dar es Salaam last week,” he said.
As a way of marking the month, all stakeholders and players in the tourism and hospitality sector are required to put on dresses that reflect the culture of Tanzanians and eat traditional foods.
According to the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), tourism earnings had in April this year jumped up by over 640billion/- compared to 330billion/- the previous year.
