Administrators unable to install update on some systems
17 Jun 2008
Microsoft has issued a new security advisory after its June security update was found to be incompatible with some systems.
The update released on 10 June addressed 10 vulnerabilities within Windows and Internet Explorer.
However, Christoper Budd, head of security response communications at Microsoft, admitted that the update is causing "deployment issues" with Microsoft's Systems Management Services client, an IT management and administration tool.
Administrators who use the System Center Configuration Manager tool have been unable to deploy the update on Systems Management Services-equipped machines.
Systems which do not use the Configuration Manager 2007 software will not be affected by the problem.
J C Hornbeck, a Microsoft manageability knowledge engineer, said that the issue exists in the Inventory Tool for Microsoft Updates component. He advised administrators to check for the error in the wsyncmgr.log file.
Hornbeck said that a new version of the update is under development at the " highest priority".
Budd noted that administrators can still install the patch by using other update systems, such as Configuration Manager's software distribution feature or Windows Server Update Services.
