Wana JF.
Why tusijiulize maswali yafuatayo.
A; ALICHUKUA MKE WA MTU?
B;AMEMTIA MTU NDANI (DHULMA)
C;MATEJA WA MWANANYAMALA WALITAKA KUIBA KOMPYUTA?
BCS NISINGEPENDA KUWAITA MAJAMBAZI WALIOVAMIA HAPO HAO NI MATEJA BCS SILAHA WALIZOTUMIA NI SILAHA MAARUFU KWA MATEJA.
Kwahiyo mimi binafsi siwezi husisha tukio hili na alichodai kubenea bcs havina uhusiano hata kidogo.
Na hpa ndio kabisaa..........
KIDUMU CHAMA CHA MAPINDUZI
Bwana Harage.
The best way ni kujitahidi tu kula karanga tu, waache wenyewe wale nyama, maziwa na asali. Get used to it, it is the way of world!
EDITORIAL: Journalists will never be silenced in their noble task
THIS DAY
ON Saturday night an ugly incident took place in Dar es Salaam against press freedom in the country when a group of thugs invaded the Mwanahalisi newspaper newsroom and attacked journalists Ndimara Tegambwage and Saidi Kubenea who were on duty.
It is reported that Tegambwage was ferociously hacked with machetes while his colleague had a deadly acid poured onto his eyes and other parts of the body. The motive of the attack is yet to be determined although right-thinking people believe that the thugs, on orders from their cowardly paymasters, were out to silence the vibrant independent press in the country.
Without mincing words, this dastardly act should be condemned in the strongest possible terms as it is bent on curtailing media freedom in a great country which since independence has enjoyed enviable peace and stability.
We condemn this evil act because journalists are the conscience of the masses, the one voice which people can turn to for information and guidance.
The Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania guarantees freedom of speech and of the press to the media practitioners. This freedom reflects the recognition of the special role of the Press in the society.
The constitution saddled the media with the responsibility of making government accountable to the people. This represents the most crucial of its oversight functions towards ensuring sustainable protection of human rights, the rule of law, positive development and the anti-corruption crusade.
In this modern world the position of the journalist is that of a big torchlight which beams across the nation, searching, exposing and dictating the thoughts and reactions of the masses.
In other words, the press by exposing flaws in the policies and programmes of the government (or business or academia or other powerful estates of modern democratic capitalist society), helps to direct society towards positive ends.
But, this view is not widely shared outside the media itself. One can conveniently say that the media is becoming increasingly unpopular. While complaints vary, many of them can be distilled into two basic schools of thought. One is that journalists tend toupholdbiased viewpointsand their reports appear not to bebalanced nor objective.
The other is that journalists, by exposing matters that ought to be nobody elses business, trample on other citizens right to privacy. More often than not, this attitudinal behaviour rears its ugly head in very sensitive national matters. The economic maladies of the modern Tanzanian state encourage the travesty ofwhat we would refer to as influenced reportage. He who pays the piper, they say, dictates the tune. Nowhere in the world is this saying more relevantthanamongst the representatives of the Fourth Estate. More often than not, the realm becomes a playground for hatchet intentions.
Are these accusations fair? People who complain about the bias of the press often misunderstand a key point, which is this: there is a difference between being biased and having an opinion. Journalists who cover politics and government spend their days learning and thinking about the issues and personalities involved. It is only natural that they develop opinions. Those who charge the press with bias almost, invariably, have strong political opinions of their own. But, they rarely perceive their own opinions as biased. Often, an accusation of bias means only that this journalist disagrees with me. But, in reality, actual bias is when a journalist lets his or her opinion get in the way of fair and accurate reporting.
One basic tenet which neither the modern times nor the internet can wish away is that truth has a natural advantage over falsehood, provided that information and argument are freely expressed. The more information and argument whether true or false, wise or stupid the more likely it is that truth and wisdom will float to the surface while falsehood and stupidity will sink.
What does this all mean? Journalists should be courageous, and be very courageous. Journalism isnt a profession for the faint-hearted. Courage doesnt mean an absence of fear. Fear is a natural reaction when faced with threats. Courage is the determination to forge ahead doing what you believe in, even in the face of danger.
This courageous spirit is what drives us to condemn the attack on our colleagues as an incident perpetrated by the faint-hearted wanting to silence the press in exposing wrongdoing in this great country. With the masses behind us, we shall not shy away from this noble task.
VICTIMS OF PERSECUTION: Tegambwage (top) and Kubenea (above) in the aftermath of the attack.
Muungwana kwa unafiki alikwenda hospitali kumpa pole bwana Kubenea kama vile hajui "what is behind the curtain"
