A MUSLIM preacher, Mr Swahaba Twalib (30) and a man suspected to be a witchdoctor, Sharifu Shaban (22), were on Friday brought before the Kinondoni Resident Magistrate's Court charged with raping teenage girls.

In the first case, the Police Prosecutor, Mr Mohamed Kilongo, told the court that the incident took place on November 20, 2010, at Kigogo Mbuyuni in Dar es Salaam.

He alleged before Magistrate Susan Kihawa that on that day at about eight in the evening, Twalib, a resident of Kigogo Mbuyuni, raped an 18-year-old girl.

The accused denied the charge and the case was adjourned to December 17, 2010, for another mention. In the second case, according to Prosecutor Kilongo, the offence is alleged to have been committed at Kigogo.

He alleged that on November 29, 2010, at about 8:00 pm, Shaban raped a 15-year-old girl.

Shaban entered a 'not guilty' plea before Magistrate Kihawa and the case was adjourned to December 17, 2010, for another mention.

Meanwhile, Mussa Kenani (34), a peasant, was arraigned before the same court facing two cases of murder and causing grievous bodily harm.

In the first case, Prosecutor Benedict Nyagabona alleged that on October 27, 2010, at Madale Goba in Dar es Salaam at about 1:30 in the morning, Kenani murdered Martina Mbunila.

Magistrate Enediana Makwaba did not let Kenani enter any plea nor get bail because the court is not mandated to preside over such a case and thus adjourned it to December 16, 2010, for another mention.

In the second case, before Magistrate Sundi Fimbo, Kenani is alleged to have caused grievous bodily harm on Mohamed Ally by cutting him with a machete on his head and his left hand, causing him to suffer serious injuries.

Kenani denied the charge but was denied bail and the case was adjourned to December 16, 2010, for another mention.

We can't comment anything since the prosecution has been set up and is in motion.
