What is this Meremeta thing? Mara ni chombo cha Jeshi mara ni mali ya Benki Kuu.

Since when jeshi became a mining company?

Was it part of compromise by Serikali kuu to make sure that just like before when Jeshi and Ulinzi were looting Hazina, we will coninue to have Amani, Utulivu na Mshikamano?

Here is what I see after reading this news clip from EastAfrican and relate to Orodha ya mafisadi:Kipengele cha pili kuhusiana na Balali.

Kama conspiracy theorist, I am tempted to say that Jeshi went to Mkapa asking for extra operation and expenses money or to run some covert operations. This must have been as soon as Mkapa became a president.

When Mkapa became a president, Taifa was at hali mbaya, focus of Mkapa was to pay off the debts, increase tax collection and fund special projects such as education, health and barabara as part of kujenga MKUKUTA.

The problem as I see is that Jeshi needed money to feed its old habits. Jeshi is a beast! they need operation money that gets approved with Bunge and expenses money to calm down vijana wasichafue hali ya hewa like 1964!

Majiniasi created a scheme to form a mining company Meremeta. They founded a financial and equity firm that had money; Triennex which funded the project to explore Dhahabu (how can you go to hazina to get funding for a covert operation?) which was in Jeshi's property (ardhi Geita/Buhemba).

Thus Meremeta became a joint venture between Triennex (which provided capital only and had no interest in the revenue than a return of their capital and interest) and Jeshi (which owned the land). Since this was covert operation (scheme) it makes sense why the company (Meremeta) was registered in UK and no local lawyers or such were used (siri).

When everything fell apart in 2001. Jeshi failed to run the project and thus Hazina had to bail out Jeshi and Meremeta. Then Bilali became CEO of Meremeta on his capacity as Gavana with all guys from Hazina, Madini and other places. Mzigo wa Jeshi ukawa Mzigo wa Taifa.

The money that was remitted by BOT in amount of $118.4 mil, was to repay the equity investment (principal and interest) to Triennex!

Sasa mshike mshike is that pesa zimelipia covert operation, it has become public and we wonder why would Serikali own a company registered outside of Tanzania and Watanzania will continue to wonder why BOT and Hazina own a Kampuni ya Madini!

From this perspective, Slaa and Zimbwe will lose to pursue their case and demands for documentation. Bilali and others who know the real deals will come out untouched. Question remains, what happened to the initial investment (capital) by Triennex? what happened to Dhahabu explored? why no one at Jeshi is being held accountable (kumbuka operations of Meremeta Project were 100% Jeshi)?

Then we need to ask ourselves, what are we "consipracy theorist" going to find on Mwananchi Green, Tan Gold and other schemes that make our politicians and technocrats look like "wahujumu na mafisadi"?

Great job trying to figure out this shenanigan Mister Kishoka! The above scenario sounds quite convincing and I would say even plausible.

And if you are searching for answers to the two questions you've posed in your posting, then you need look no further than the sentence right next to your second question, namely the generals at JWTZ ate up everything!!

Tanzanians don't and never ever will have the professional expertise to run a capital intensive, and not least organizationally and technologically demanding project of the magnitude and size as this projected gold mine. So basically they fucked up everything and eventually the generals fleeced the company.

Mystery company that received billions from BoT, then filed for bankruptcy and voluntary liquidation: The SA connection

A MYSTERY company associated with the now defunct Meremeta Gold company, Deep Green Finance, has now been inextricably linked to directors of a major South African bank which was a recipient of billions of shillings from the Bank of Tanzania.

According to THISDAYs latest findings, official records list the directors or managers of Deep Green Finance as Mark Ross Weston (a New Zealand national), Anton Taljaard and Rudolph van Schalkwyk (both South African nationals).

Schalkwyk is also the head of the structured trade and commodity finance unit at Nedbank Limited, one of South Africas biggest commercial banks.

All three listed directors of Deep Green Finance Co. Limited, which received up to 8bn/- in BoT payments under dubious circumstances, are residents of South Africa.

It has already been verified that the relatively obscure company was registered in March 2005, and by August of the same year had already landed a payment cheque in US dollars equivalent to 1,546,778,778.92/- from the central bank.

And between September and December of the same year (2005), Deep Green Finance Co. Ltd was given further financial support from the central bank totalling more than 6bn/-.

Well-placed sources have asserted that Deep Green Finance was directly involved with both Meremeta Gold Limited and Tangold Limited, local companies which at one time operated the Buhemba gold mine in Musoma, Mara Region.

Before being liquidated some time ago, Meremeta Gold was registered as a joint venture company owned on a 50-50 basis by the Tanzanian Government and a private South African company called Trinnex (Pty) Limited.

The assets and liabilities of Meremeta Gold - including the Buhemba gold mine ? were later transferred to Tangold Limited, being a new company ostensibly wholly owned by the government.

Both Meremeta Gold and Tangold have also been the beneficiaries of questionable BoT payments to the tune of over $130m (approx. 160bn/-) through accounts at various banks.

In the case of Meremeta Gold, investigations by THISDAY have already established that the central bank made a payment of over $118m (approx. 150bn/-) to Nedbank ? the same South African bank where one of the Deep Green Finance directors is a senior officer - through the New York-based HSB Bank.

This payment was apparently made to liquidate a loan issued to Meremeta Gold after it had filed for bankruptcy. Official audit queries have since been raised as to why the government -- through the central bank -- decided to clear the loan on behalf of Meremeta Gold after it became bankrupt, instead of Nedbank itself filing its claim directly to the liquidator.

It has been further revealed that BoT paid an additional $13.34m (approx. 17bn/-) to another bank account under the name of Tangold Limited, at the National Bank of Commerce Limited corporate branch in Dar es Salaam.

Government sources have told THISDAY that in order to effect the payments to Meremeta Gold and Tangold, BoT purchased a huge 155bn/- Treasury bond and later exchanged the amount into US dollar currency.

Meanwhile, a Deep Green Finance company financial statement filed by the end of November last year shows that the firm had recorded an estimated surplus of $7,880 (approx. 10m/-) after paying all debts in full.

Like Meremeta Gold, Deep Green Finance had also filed for voluntary liquidation. But in the case of the latter, the bankruptcy was filed hardly two years after its official establishment and having already received billions of shillings from BoT within its relatively short lifespan.

Deep Green Finance filed for members voluntary winding-u? on April 24 this year, declaring that board members not identified in the document had appointed Protase Rwezahura Gervas Ishengoma as liquidator with effect from July 27 this year.

Ishengoma, a partner with the prominent Dar es Salaam law firm IMMA Advocates, was named as subscriber and first shareholder of Deep Green Finance Co. Ltd. The voluntary winding-up has been filed under section 360 of the Companies Act of 2002, as stated in the notice delivered to the Business Registration and Licensing Authority (BRELA).

Was it the South African who borrowed money or it was repayment of their investment in the joint venture with JWTZ/TPDF which was 50% owner of Meremeta and Tangold who had land and SA had capital?

Tutapiga chenga sana, lakini we need to ge back to the local shafreholders who failed to run the companies forcing the Government to bail them out through BOT in the name of Amani, Utulivu and Mshikamano.
