IPP Executive Chairman Reginald Mengi has said that President Jakaya Kikwete will most likely register yet another landslide victory by a much wider margin in the 2010 general elections following his clear commitment to lead the nation into prosperity.
Speaking over the weekend at a fundraising function, held simultaneously with the inauguration of Uvima Saccos, in Ashira congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCT) in Moshi Rural District in Kilimanjaro Region, Mengi said the first three years of his presidency proved his ability to spearhead economic development and better the life for the people of Tanzania.
``President Kikwete has increasingly won public trust since he came to power three years ago, and this remains an excellent indicator for another big victory in 2010.
What we have achieved today, including peace and stability that the country continue to enjoy, has a direct and strong bearing to the commendable leadership of President Kikwete that is focused on better life for all Tanzanians,`` Mengi clarified.
Mengi reminded clerics and other worshipers to pray for President Kikwete for his continued efforts to serve the people of Tanzania and for the fulfillment of government pledges to the people and his determination to enhance economic development.
During the function, Mengi contributed 50m/-, half of which would specifically be given to 50 widows as starting capital in the fight against poverty, while the rest of the money would support UVIMA Saccos in the area.
During a guided tour, the Executive Chairman visited various development projects owned by the members of the credit society and advised them to increase production in goods which are much needed in the market.
He also advised them to improve the packaging of their products for a better quality and subsequently for expanded markets.
Commenting on the challenges facing the local community, the secretary of UVIMA Saccos, Joyce Shao, cited lack of basic working facilities, including limited financial capacity to hire trained personnel in running the society profitably.
``Our target is to ensure steady capital growth in various projects. We need to hire professionals in finance and banking operations and organise short courses on entrepreneurship for the members,`` Joyce explained.
However, the appeal by the members received immediate attention from NMB Managing Director Ben Chrisstiaanse, who apart from contributing 5m/- and two computer sets, also pledged deployment of bankers to provide basic lessons to them on professional management of Saccos activities.
For his part, the national chairman of PRIDE Tanzania Limited, Iddi Simba, pledged support and close monitoring of the performance of UVIMA Saccos to help it meet its objectives.
Aloyce Kimaro, who is the MP for Vunjo constituency reminded the people of their obligation to work hard with a clear objective as the best strategy to end poverty.
