Tourism sector got a boost after arrival of a cruise ship, MS Silver Cloud, at the port of Mombasa on Tuesday morning.
The vessel from Seychelles arrived in Mombasa with 438 people on board, 216 tourists and 222 crew members.
Kenya Tourism Board said they expect more ships to be calling at the Mombasa port until January.
KTB Assistance manage corporate communication Kimutai Ngeno said the sector has recorded an increase of cruise tourism this year compared to the previous years.
He said the calling of the cruise ships is sign of confidence for the destination owing to improved security in the Indian Ocean.
Last year, the country attracted more than 3,000 cruise tourists, compared with 900 in 2014.
Upon arrival, some tourists traveled to the Shimba Hills Game Reserve and the Mwalughanje Elephant Sanctuary for game drives.
Kenya’s tourist arrivals increase by 14 per cent
