Title: Tanzanian publisher admits Mozambican author not properly quoted
Author: Fernando Veloso
New Africa Press, the publishers of "Nyerere and Africa: End of an Era" by
Godfrey Mwakikagile, has publicly admitted that passages taken from Joao
Cabritas work entitled, Mozambique The Tortuous Road to Democracy were
not properly cited. In a statement released via the Moçambique para Todos
blog (which took the report originally published in Canalmoz and Canal de
Moçambique Semanário), New Africa Press said the matter will be
corrected in the next edition of "Nyerere and Africa: End of an Era" to be
published before the end of the year. The publisher, which has offices in
Dar es Salaam and Pretoria, added that the name of the author of
Mozambique The Tortuous Road to Democracy as well as the title of his
book would be cited in the text and in the chapter notes for the chapter in
which Godfrey Mwakikagile dealt with the founding of Frelimo.
The statement issued by «New Africa Press» came in the wake of a heated
debate on the Moçambique para Todos blog. The debated had been prompted
by a report carried in Canalmoz on 17 February 20010, saying Godfrey
Mwakikagile had plagiarized huge chunks of Joao Cabritas book which was
published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2000.
