I don’t know if Matinyi is on the payroll, or if he’s doing what he’s doing out of some conviction and love for the Emirati hunting company, but the fact is that the ”article” is malicious incitement against the people of Loliondo for the benefit of OBC.

All land in Loliondo is village land per Village Land Act nr.5 of 1999, and it’s also a Game Controlled Area where OBC has the hunting block. Stan Katabalo reported about how this hunting block was acquired in the early 90s.

In the drought year 2009 the FFU and OBC committed the human rights crime of extrajudicially evicting people and cattle from some 1,500 km2 that serve as the core hunting area next to Serengeti National Park. People eventually move back.

In 2010-2011 OBC totally funded a draft district land use plan that proposed turning the 1,500 km2 into the new kind of Game Controlled Area that’s a “protected” (not from hunting) area and can’t overlap with village land. This plan was strongly rejected by Ngorongoro District Council.

In 2013 Minister Kagasheki made bizarre statements as if all village land in Loliondo would have disappeared through magic, and the people of Loliondo would be generously “gifted” with the land outside the 1,500 km2. An extremely twisted way of again trying to grab OBC’s core hunting area. There’s of course no way a minister for natural resources and tourism would have the mandate for such a trick of magic. After many mass meetings and protest delegations to Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, PM Pinda in a speech revoked Kagasheki’s threat and told the Maasai to continue their lives as before this crazy threat that through the loss of dry season grazing land would have led to the destruction of livelihoods, environmental degradation and increased conflict with neighbours.

In the article mentioned here by Nali, Matinyi calls for Majaliwa to go back to the Kagasheki threat! On 17th November Matinyi had another article in the RAI in which he described the Maasai as destructive and the OBC hunters as heroes for environment and development, and on 4th November in the chat between editors of media houses and president Magufuli, Matinyi posed a question about a very big threat against conservation that “a person in Loliondo” had told him about the previous day. An article in the Citizen was somewhat more balanced and open with the fact that the source was a “report” released by OBC themselves.

It seems like Matinyi has taken over from Manyerere Jackton who has written over 20 articles full of lies, inciting against the Maasai of Loliondo in the Jamhuri, and openly boasted of being directly involved in illegal arrests of innocent people to silence anyone who could ever speak up in Loliondo.

I don’t know if Masyaga Matinyi is corrupt, but I have more than enough evidence that he’s a very, very bad guy indeed.
