AFRICA: A DIPLOMAT'S PERSPECTIVE - Ambassador MICHAEL BATTLE
in 2014, nearly all fifty four African heads of state converged on Washington DC for the first ever US-Africa leaders summit. It was organised under the presidency of Barack Obama, who placed my second guest today, Ambassador Michael Battle, who was US envoy to the African Union, in charge of organising the event. The hope for American policy makers was that the summit would help the US to forge closer ties with African leaders - an attempt to reconnect with a rapidly changing continent. Seven years later, we consider the impact of US Africa relations, in the aftermath of President Obama's US Africa Summit, with my special guest, Ambassador Michael Battle.
