Malawi Immigration Department has arrested 12 foreign nationals for operating business illegally and are facing deportation.
Spokesman for Immigration Department in the central region, Chandiwira Chidoti said the authorities arrested the 12 foreign nations and will be taken to court on Thursday.
He said the foreigners are from Burundi, Tanzania, Ghana, India and Sudan who have been charged with an offence of staying in the country illegally.
The immigration official said when convicted by the court, the illegal immigrants will be deported to the countries.
Chidoti said removal directions will be issued after the court on Thursday.
Foreign nationals from Nigeria, China, Tanzania, Pakistan, India, Burundi and Ethiopia have been accused by Malawians citizens of trading illegally in the countrys main cities of Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu.
Immigration department said most the traders were found to be contravening business licensing procedures for investing in a business by foreigners. A minimum of 50,000 dollars is required before the issuance of a trade permit to a foreigner.
According to the immigration department, being found doing business without a legal permit is met with one of two legal responses: the foreigners could have their permits cancelled or they could be deported.
