BUILDING CAPACITY OF THE COMMUNITY TO PREVENT AND SOLVE CRIME:​

The Tanzania Police Force beliefs that safety starts in the local community. Where young people are brought up in a secure and stable environment with role models and constructive activities, they are less likely to get sucked into anti – social behavior and criminality.
In order to build and strengthen the capacity of the community to prevent and solve crime the Tanzania Police Force has embarked on Police Ward Programme, commonly known as Polisi Kata/Shehia. Police ward initiative is a joint programme between Police and the Local Government authorities. Though these locally accepted mechanism of govermence starting from Division (Tarafa) and wards( Kata/Shehia). Police and other stakeholders can easily reach the community at street level (Mtaa) in urban areas and in village level (Vijiji/Vitongoji) in rural areas.
In the Street (Mtaa) and village level neighborhood watch programme is organized by the community themselves in order to reduce residential crime. Community is being educated by Police and other stakeholders Non-Government organizations, Institutions and other civil society structures about working together as a community to improve personal security and house hold security . Most important, it is about encouraging interaction and sense of responsibility between neighbors and community.

Binafsi sioni mantiki ya hizi namba kikubwa na chenye mafaa kwa watz ni utendaji wa kazi! Hizi namba zinawafaa mahawara wao!! Kama tukio la ujambazi linaweza kutokea na akapigiwa simu akajibu gari haina mafu na askari wazamu tupo wachache inafada gani namba hiyo?
