International media outlets have quoted National Assembly Speaker Job Ndugai saying Tanzania was supporting announcement made by US President Donald Trump.
Dar es Salaam. Tanzania has distanced itself from international media reports that the East African nation was supporting the US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
International media outlets have quoted National Assembly Speaker Job Ndugai saying Tanzania was supporting announcement made by US President Donald Trump.
Speaking to The Citizen on Thursday, December 7, the minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr Augustine Mahiga, said Tanzania, just like the international community, continues to recognize Tel Aviv as the Israeli capital city.
“Our embassy is in Tel Aviv and we’ll remain there. Some countries have tried to convince us. We will remain in Tel Aviv,” though he declined to give detailed comments over the issue.
Yesterday, US president Donald Trump announced that the US now recognise Jerusalem as the capital of the Israel State, promising that his country will shift its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, the announcement was received with criticism from various parties around the world.
